Good article, Tony! I don’t know why GCC isn’t better known in some circles. God is definitely doing some top-notch things through the volunteers and staff at Granger. Of course, this isn’t new information to you.
Growth from 1,400 to 5,000 is amazing. Has this growth been pretty slow and steady (not that 1,400 to 5,000 can really be described as slow, but you know what I mean)? Or have you experienced times of quick growth followed by a slower pace? At my church, the growth seems to be very much stop and go. We will do well for a while, but then it seems to level off and then pick back up again. I tend to think this is because our systems aren’t keeping up. We still seem to have a reactive instead of proactive approach in some areas. I guess I’m making the assumption that slow and steady is the optimal way to grow.
Maybe this is something that will be in Simply Strategic Growth. I need to get a copy ordered (from Amazon of course).

Brad, thanks for your kind remarks. Our growth has been pretty rapid throughout the history of the church. Last I checked, it was over 20% per year over the entire 18 years. In recent years, however, it’s been even faster. We went for a few years in a row where it was 30% or more each year. In South Bend, IN, that’s crazy fast. Things have slowed a little in the last few months due to space limitations. That’s all going to change in just a few more weeks with the building expansion. I have a feeling that’s going to crank up the growth rate again…at least that’s what’s happened every other time we’ve opened up a new space. It’ll be fun to see how God moves next.
