Box Score for Weekend of June 11/12

Here’s the "box score" for this past weekend at Granger Community Church.

Music: "It’s the End of the World" by R.E.M.; "About You" by ZOEgirl

Message: "Winning the War for Trust" — Mark Beeson, Senior Pastor, opened the new series that will uncover the dangers of the "seven deadly sins." This week Mark talked about pride, the fundamental issue behind all sin. He suggested we can detect pride in our lives when we find ourselves unteachable, despising instruction and hating authority. Mark concluded the message by describing how pride is the opposite of I Corinthians 13.

Service Highlights: The service experience began out in the Atrium with a newscast reporting on meteors that had crashed into the earth including Granger Community Church. The service itself started with a drama that included a talk show with experts offering their assessment of the catastrophe. The drama concluded with lots of pyrotechnics and the meteor on the platform exploded. Dozens of aliens emerged from the big meteor. As the aliens made their way from the platform, through the crowd and out the back of the auditorium, the band kicked into the song "It’s the End of the World." My guess is we haven’t seen the end of those aliens.

Stats: 5,127 total attendance (4,137 adults + 990 kids); 26.5% increase from the same weekend last year

Final Notes: In addition to the new space and the new websites, this weekend was the first weekend for our new program (bulletin) format. It was redesigned with the first-time guest in mind. Very streamlined. Very few announcements. And, among other things people have the opportunity to mark a box indicating "I’ve never been to church. I was dragged here against my will." Isn’t that fun?
