Reliving the 80s…One Ballad at a Time
OK, it’s no secret. I’ve always really been more of a lover than a fighter. That’s always been the case. And, that’s probably why I was a sucker for the slow ballads while growing up in the 80s. Additionally, my mullet was never long enough to truly enjoy the hard rock hair bands. I should try to find a picture of my bad hair from the 80s, shouldn’t I?
I thought I’d celebrate "Fun Friday" today with a journey back in time. We’re going back to "The Commons" at Piqua High School. That was the scene of many school dances. I’d invite my high school sweetheart (and future wife), Emily out to the center of the floor for a romantic moment as we listened and danced to the great ballads of the day. Here were the favorites:
- You’re the Inspiration – Chicago
- I Want to Know What Love Is – Foreigner
- Lady in Red – Chris de Burgh
- Crazy for You – Madonna
- Can’t Fight This Feeling – REO Speedwagon
- Search is Over – Survivor
- Groovy Kind of Love – Phil Collins
- Heaven – Bryan Adams
- Faithfully – Journey
Feel free to add to the list. Through the miracle of iTunes, we can even relive the memories. I need to finish my downloads so I can invite Emily back out to the dance floor.
(Yes, Jami, I guess Emily and I are one of those "cute couples.")

What about:
More Than Words by Extreme
Love of a Lifetime by Firehouse
Hard to Say I’m Sorry by Chicago
Will You Still Love Me? by Chicago
By the way Tony, since you and Emily were a “cute couple” of the 80′s, did you make a habit of dressing the same too? :-)
You have to include some “Bon Jovi”! LOL! Those were the days.
What about “When I’m With You” by Sheriff? Or how about “Heaven” by either Bryan Adams or Warrant (obviously very different songs, sharing the same name). Funny post! Make it a great 4th of July!
Wow! First pink, now Bryan Adams… what are we learning about Tony Morgan!?
Hey Tony,
Thanks for messing up my day off–now I am going to have to go searching for all of my 80′s music!!! :-) I am going to be so mad at you if I can’t get, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” out of my head!!!
Perry, I hate to admit this, but I actually taught a youth group message one time based on the song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” I’m sure it was cutting-edge teaching at the time. :-)
Rats…now I can’t get that song out of my head either. Thanks a lot!
I was a hairband guy so any of the Metal Ballads of the 80′s were cool to me. Curse the grundge movement for killing the hair bands. :)
I think I know where to find just such a picture…In fact, I bet it would facinate your subscribers to know that there’s an album cover with your face (and 80′s hair) on it out there somewhere…! Tony – you’ve got to know who your friends are! ;)
