Box Score for Weekend of July 2/3
Here’s the "box score" for this past weekend at Granger Community Church.
Music: "America" by Chris Tomlin; "Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley
Message: "Winning the War for Freedom" — Mark Beeson, Senior Pastor, addressed another of the"seven deadly sins" by talking about the dangers of wrath.
Service Highlights: In addition to an incredible rendition of "Heart of the Matter," the arts team came through with another clever video that captured in a comical fashion the impact of inappropriate anger. I think we’re trying to get the video uploaded to GCCwired.com for you to see. I’ll give you an update if we’re able to pull that off. You’re going to want to check it out. It’s very funny.
Stats: 3,851 total attendance (3,099 adults + 752 kids); 14.1% increase from the same weekend last year
Percentage of weekend attendance by service:
- Sun 10:15 am = 25%
- Sun 11:45 am = 21%
- Sat 5:30 pm = 20%
- Sun 8:45 am = 18%
- Sat 7:30 pm = 17%
Final Notes: I don’t know if it’s the same at your church, but the Fourth of July weekend is historically one of our lowest attendance weekends of the entire year. That’s why it’s important to track comparative data from year to year rather than just looking at how attendance patterns are shifting from weekend to weekend.

How do you count your people?
We wait until after the message starts to make sure we catch all the latecomers. At least two people complete the counts to make sure they’re accurate. They either count people or empty seats depending on how full the services are to determine how many people are in the auditorium. The children are obviously counted in their classrooms. We do not include volunteers that are serving in these counts. Is that what you needed to know?
Good to know. I’m glad… uh… transitus?.. asked. :)
And I really appreciate your posting the box scores each week, Tony. It’s encouraging to me in a couple of ways. (1) I get to cheer for how God is working through you guys at GCC! (2) I get to see that even movin’ & shakin’ churches like yours have your ups & downs when it comes to attendance. That’s encouraging to a guy like me in a struggling little (around 100) church plant.
And you’re right – year to year comparisons will help keep you sane! :)
Yes, that’s what I was looking for. I have far fewer people to count, but I wondered how a much larger church manages the task.
