Question for you: When you post the box scores you compare the attendance to the numbers from the same weekend last year. Why is that? Not asking because it is wrong, but because I am clueless. Thanks.
Kevin, great question. The reason why we compare to the same weekend from the previous year is to track attendance growth. Attendance goes in cycles depending on whether or not school is in session, if there’s snow on the ground, if Notre Dame is at home, if it’s Easter, etc. Because of that, we can’t always compare to the previous weekend to determine if the attendance is actually growing. A better comparison is to track where we were on the same weekend the previous year. Since our weekend services are our primary form of outreach to the community, attendance growth is one measure we track to determine whether or not the church is healthy.
