Would the “Hot Wok” Play in Peoria?

We landed in Houston this afternoon and really only had time to check-in at the hotel and then head to dinner. We ate at the "Hot Wok." Yes, it was everything you might imagine a "Hot Wok" experience would be.

Among the cool people we ate with this evening was Kirt from Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, Illinois. Kirt said lots of nice stuff about Granger and me tonight. I think he must have me confused with someone else. He may have had a little too much of the teriyaki sauce. Whatever the case, I’m thinking about giving him a free registration to the Innovative Church Conference. He may have been confused. He may have been lying. He may have been a little sauced. Whatever the case, the man should be rewarded for saying nice things about me and my peeps at Granger, don’t you think?

Okay, I need to get back to my PowerPoint practice for Kem’s presentation. I’m really nervous. I’ve not been on the spot like this for technical support since back when I was still in local government. About 12 years ago I was working for the City Manager in Galesburg, Illinois. One of the local reporters captured a picture of me operating the overhead projector for a budget presentation with the City Council. It made the front page of one of the local newspapers with the caption: "Tony Morgan ably mans the overhead projector."

I became a folk hero back in Galesburg because of my overhead projector operating prowess. I turned on the projector at just the right time. I very skillfully transitioned between overhead transparencies. I seem to recall even making a slight adjustment with the mirrors to optimize the angle of the image that was being projected on the screen. I’m hopeful I will have the same success tomorrow, but PowerPoint is obviously a huge step up from my days on the overhead projector.

I guess tomorrow we’ll see if I can actually wok the talk.

A fellow Peorian is checking in here… Kirt is an awesome guy, we’re breakfast buddies and our churches have come together to support one another on different projects and community events. He may have been a little sauced, but he’s an awesome guy and I think you should give him a free pass for sure…and one for me too! :)

THIS is why, on my own blog, you are called “the funny one.” You also have entirely too much time on your hands.

I should add that it’s also because, when put on stage in a dramatic-type situation, Tony will laugh every time. Usually it’s after something funny happens, but not always. I just pray for the day that you and I will share the stage again…

I just want to talk a little about how great Kirt is and how much I know he would appreciate being a part of of the conference. He has been telling me this for quite a while. In fact, if you look at his wall calendar in his office, the dates have been marked since he installed the calendar in January. He said he had faith that he’d get there, but he didn’t know yet how it was going to happen. Kirt is great. Kirt is really great, really really really great! Maybe this is just the sauce speaking, but did I tell you that I think Kirt is just great? You should definately invited him! (I promise you the sauce was only that stuff they coat the General Tsao’s chicken with–but I had a lot of that!)

Tony, anyone who has [and I quote], “Read every blog you’ve ever written for the past two years” deserves a pass, not to mention the title “Tony Morgan Fan Club President.” But hey, maybe my standards aren’t as high.. ;)
