We’ve Arrived
In case you’re trying to keep up with "Tim and Tony’s Excellent Adventure," we arrived in Calgary this evening. It took us both a while to get through customs and then immigration, but they finally agreed to let us into the country.
Calgary has a beautiful airport. And, I learned that they are very hospitable. As an example, the first thing I did after getting through customs was find a men’s restroom. The urinal I used…was an "American Standard." I felt right at home.
After getting in our fancy Mercury Grand Marquis, Tim and I cruised through Arby’s drive thru. Thankfully Arby’s accepts Visa because both of us forgot we needed to get Canadian currency. Tim had trouble communicating our order using the drive thru speaker. We wanted a #2 with curly fries and a Coke and a #7 with curly fries and a Dr. Pepper. I’m not sure what got lost in the translation, but it took Tim at least six attempts to get our order placed. Apparently he wasn’t listening very carefully when I was trying to teach him how to speak Canadian on the plane.
There’s snow on the ground here. It’s zero degrees celsius outside. We have the room temperature set at 18 degrees celsius. Neither Tim nor I know if that’s hot or cold, but it’s better than zero. Actually, Tim just proclaimed from across the room that South Bend’s average annual snowfall (72 inches per year) is 19 inches higher than Calgary. I’m not sure how many centimeters that is.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to share some pictures. Until then, know that we’re enjoying our evening and looking forward to meeting new friends. Good night from Calgary.
