Box Score for Weekend of February 4/5
Here’s the "box score" for this past weekend at Granger Community Church.
Drama: "The Offering"
Message: "Mad Money Religion" — Mark Beeson, Senior Pastor, concluded this series on money by addressing the importance of discipline with our money. He quoted Dallas Willard, "Becoming Christlike never occurs without intense and well-informed action on our part." Mark concluded the message by talking about the the importance of tithing and what it could mean for the church’s impact and our own spiritual transformation.
Service Highlights: In each service, Mark Beeson gave everyone the opportunity to respond to what God has been calling us to do over the last five weeks on the topic of biblical stewardship. He compared the Old Testament standard (Malachi 3:10) with the New Testament standard (Luke 6:38) for giving. Everyone had a chance to complete a commitment card at the end of the service that provided an opportunity to make an advance decision. "I have decided in advance to put my treasure and my heart here at my home church. I’m not going to reconsider the percentage each week. That decision is behind me. As of today, I have already decided that God is worthy and I will freely and sacrificially tithe because of my love for Jesus Christ."

Tithing will have the total oppisite effect to what you think. Here is the reasons Why Tithing is wrong

Puritan Belief,
Your blog says, “If you are in a church which tithes I can almost guarantee that your pastors and elders have added up the number of people in the congregation estimated their income and then calculated how much money they should get each week.”
I pastor The Rock (www.therockchurch.net) in Seattle. I and our Elders don’t do what you “almost guarantee” that we do. How do we do that? Sounds like it might be a good planning tool.
