Bible Journey > Joshua
Here are my thoughts and highlights from Joshua as I continue my journey through the Bible:
- "Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."
- The last place the People of Israel stopped before entering the Promised Land was called Shittim. (This is when all the junior students in the room start laughing uncontrollably.)
- The water in the Jordan river stopped flowing to allow the People of Israel to cross into the promised land. It didn’t stop, however, until the priests took a step of faith and their feet touched the water. I love that word picture.
- Joshua made stone knives to circumcise the people at Foreskins Hill. Stone knives. Really. How sharp can stone knives be? Praise God for Cutco.
- Joshua prayed and asked God to stop the sun from going down so that there would be sunlight to defeat his enemies. God stopped the sun. I need to be more specific in my prayers.
- I want to live totally for God.
- "Love God, your God, walk in all his ways, do what he’s commanded, embrace him, serve him with everything you are and have."
- I have responsibility for my family’s faith journey.
- Joshua reminds us to "vigilantly guard" our souls. With that in mind, I’m betting Joshua always minded his P’s and Q’s, never went swimming within the first hour after eating, and never watched Oprah.

How cool. I am going through Joshua on my blog, along with other members of our church plant team. I’m posting chapter by chapter, however. Next we’re going to go through Nehemiah together and then possibly Ezra and Acts.
