Maxtor Called Today

Just to follow up on my post from yesterday evening, Maxtor called today. They’ve decided to refund me for the full amount of the hard drive. I’m grateful for their decision to change their position from yesterday. My outlook on Maxtor has improved today. Thank you, as well, to everyone that commented and provided advice on how I can address my backup needs. I appreciate your help.

    In my opinion, the best backup is an offsite backup. I’ve done the external hard drive thing, but if my house burns down, chances are that drive is melting along with everything else. I discovered Mozy (mozy.com) the other day and have so far been impressed. It’s a little app that backs up your files to their servers using SSL & Blowfish encryption. They give you 2GB for free and you can get more space for cheap. It’s still in beta, but I’ve been using it for several weeks and plan to upgrade to the 20GB option soon. It’s worth checking out. I’m not losing sleep now thinking about losing all my daughter’s pictures.
