More Carolina Adventures

So, I show up at NewSpring Church this morning to see Perry Noble, and you’d never guess what he was wearing. The guy had a pink t-shirt on that proudly stated in bold letters, "Tough Guys Wear Pink." That was my first impression of NewSpring Church. A big, southern, pastor guy wearing a pink t-shirt. You draw your own conclusions.

Perry showed us around their new campus in Anderson, SC. It’s quite a facility, but I was more impressed with the team of people Perry has put together. It’s a sharp group of young leaders. God definitely has great plans for NewSpring because he’s brought together a high-caliber team.

Though I do question Perry’s choice of attire for the day, he did buy lunch. That was a pleasant surprise, so I guess he redeemed himself.

After leaving NewSpring, we headed up north a little bit to Seneca, SC to visit Foothills Community Church. Senior Pastor Greg Oraham and his team took a couple of hours to show us around their place and tell us about what’s happening at Foothills. The church is running over 1,000 people each weekend in a small, rural area of South Carolina. Pretty incredible story. We walked away with several new ideas to consider as we approach ministry back in South Bend.

Overall, we had a very favorable experience for our brief trip to the Carolinas. Yes, Geoff, we wish we could have visited Seacoast as well. We’ll be back though. In the mean time, I’m reading your book. Great stuff!

I’m looking forward to getting home. I’m in the I-miss-Emily-phase of the trip. Tim and Mark and great guys and all, but they’re not Emily.

I got to see Perry Noble speak at Seacoast last week. Talk about a powerful message about Purpose! I’m really looking forward to seeing it again this week via video back at our home campus here in Savannah!

He looks especially big standing next to Greg Surratt for some reason…

Oh, and he must have left his pink T-shirt home. ;)
