Summer Vacation Days Four and Five
OK, I’ve been so engaged in the Morgan Family FunFest, I haven’t had time to provide updates. Here’s the lowdown from the past several days.
- On Tuesday, Tim and I headed out early for the third round of the Minnesota Open. Unfortunately, my putting stroke left me, and I stumbled home with an 86. On a normal day, that should have left me in decent shape, but Tim came back with a strong 79 leaving me five strokes behind going into the final round.
- I taught the Magnusons how to play Texas Hold ‘Em poker (don’t know if Tim’s Baptist congregation is supposed to know that). Tim appeared to know what he was doing, though, because he finished in second place out of 7 players. Makes me think he’s played poker before.
- We all headed to the ballpark on Tuesday evening and had a baseball game and a home run hitting contest. Abby won the contest with two home runs.
- Jacob and Jonny shot and killed a mole in the backyard. I know. That means I’m not going to get the PETA vote this November.
- Yesterday, I posted another 86 playing from the back tees at Litchfield Golf Club. Tim played well and shot an 84 in the final round. That means Tim won the Minnesota Open by a total of seven strokes. He gets to keep the trophy and the green jacket.
- We hung out at Lake Ripley, another one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes.
- And, we concluded our stay in Litchfield by watching Tim and Becky’s son, Jonny, pitch three innings in his little league baseball game. They won.
It was a great visit in Litchfield, MN. I’m sure it’s soon to become a vacation destination for throngs of Hoosiers in the years to come.

They shot a mole? That’s a serious accomplishment. I’d believe Armadillo, rabbit, or even squirrel, but moles are like glorified rats who live underground. They rarely come above ground, much less hang around to get shot at. Kudos to the kiddos.
