Rock Stars, Blog Designs and Man Laws

Here are some random thoughts and experiences from recent days:

  • I was on the Golf Channel the other night. They were replaying highlights from the 2004 Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. My dad and I were standing around the 18th hole watching the final matches on Sunday afternoon. The European’s were celebrating their victory. For a brief moment, the cameras caught Dad and I in one of their shots. It was only a brief moment, but now I can say, "I was on the Golf Channel."
  • Last night I took my oldest two kids to our first Cubs game. The game started at 8:00 pm. We didn’t get home until after 1:00 am. Today was their first day of school. Probably not a good parenting move, but we had a lot of fun.
  • Apparently Gary doesn’t think I look like a rock star. If I have to wear a man necklace, I don’t think I want to be a rock star.
  • Dawn, I’m glad you’re working on the new, fancy media player for GCCwired.com rather than making your blog look better than the design you did for my blog. Soon I’ll be able to brag about our new, fancy media player. And, in the mean time, I can still brag about how my blog design is better than yours. Both make me happy.
  • Bob, it’s nothing against you, but I’m boycotting the tag games. I’d rather just link to you and tell people how awesome I think you and your ministry are. I’d rather just tell people you have a fun blog to follow. I think people are more interested in your "man laws," which, by the way, I support, rather than know what books I’ve read. Churches need more guys like you. By the way…thanks for your book.
  • We hired John and Daryl. Now we need to recruit more creative techie volunteers. Their addition to the team, though, should be your clue to upcoming cool technology advances on our websites. Can’t wait to tell you more in the coming weeks. By the way (this advice is free), you need to have a communications strategy before you hire your web team. Just thought I’d throw that out there for you to chew on.
  • We’ve been inundated with conference registrations in the last few days. It’s way fun. I love the conversations with my team where we get to decide how to accommodate all our extra guests. Those are the fun challenges of ministry. By the way, we selected all the arts elements today. It’s going to be an incredible experience.
