That’s My Son!

Someone gave me the kindest compliment today and they were actually talking about my son. One of our good friends that we’ve met through youth sports here in Granger had this to say about my son:

"We will surely miss Jacob. He is a great kid.  His passion, leadership, and intelligence are amazing to watch."

You need to know, Jacob is a great little athlete. (In other words, my son could kick your son’s butt on the basketball court or the baseball diamond.) What encouraged me about this message was that Jacob’s athletic skills were not acknowledged–it was everything else Jacob demonstrates in his character. What our friend shared is true. That’s who Jacob is…on and off the court. I’m so proud of him.

As a proud dad, it made me wonder how God reacts to our conversations…you know–how we treat each other. I wonder what God thinks when he hears comments like this about his children. I bet it makes him smile as well.

This was just a reminder for me to be wise about how I talk about fellow Christ-followers.

Griff would own your kid in baseball…and Blokus (the greatest game ever…for now) and he makes a mean paper airplane.

Hey! Ok I know that you don’t know me, but I go to Newspring and I got to your blog through Perry’s. I laughed out loud when I read this because I have a 16 month old and there for a while Jesus was missing in our house as well. The title of my blog was “Jesus is AWOL” so we can completely relate. We found him in the cat’s bedroom (yes, my cat has a bedroom- I am strange!). Come to find out he was missing at my parents and my in laws houses as well… But, like Emily, Kylie has found Jesus!! Can’t wait to have you here!! We are looking forward to it!!

ouch… conviction. that last line hit home with me.

i have higher expectations for fellow christ-followers. which makes it easier for me to badmouth them, ironically enough.

great post, and thanks for the dose of conviction.
