Get Your Strategy On

I know. I’m late to the ballgame, but I made my very first Skype video call today. Amazing! I was talking to and watching friends back in Indiana. I remember when stuff like that only happened in the movies. Now I can roam around my apartment with my laptop and a wireless connection and talk to friends like they’re next door…well not quite, but it’s still pretty cool. And, the amazing thing is that the Skype to Skype video calls are still free. Needless to say I think my whole family is getting webcams for Christmas.

I think that Skype has a lot of possibilities. I seen on the Skype website the other day of a church in England Skypecasting their service.

I remember listening to the last episode of the Simply Strategic show thinking to myself, “they could still do the show using Skype.”

When Skype first came on the scene we started using it for radio remote broadcasts at certain events. With a fast enough connection, you could time the Skype delay for ‘on air’ use. We started using it at sister stations to work out interviews and special segments. It worked like a charm, and with the new advances quite a few people are using it for broadcasting/podcasting.

Tony -
Welcome to Skype - i use it everyday … and it’s especially easy w/ the new Macs with built-in camera.
Tye “SkypeOut” feature rocks - long distance, international calling, etc .. I am loving it.
Enjoyed the SS podcast .. wish i’d been listenign long before. I just made a very similar transition myself, but I didn’t move states - i moved 2 miles down the road to a different church … talk about awkward! But God is blessing it.
Enjoy your blogs!

Tony, Skype is truly a lifesaver for those of us living outside of our home countries. But here is the best skype story i’ve ever heard.
A buddy of mine who is also a pastor in Bangkok was in China on business (he’s bivocational). He arrives at this golf course that is being built about a two hours drive out of one of the major cities. He finds 100 Filipino migrant laborers who’ve been building this golf course for 6 months. They are all Christians, but they haven’t seen a pastor since coming to China.
So my buddy conducts a service for them and serves them communion. He said they were all crying it was so powerful. Then he finds out they have internet and one guy has a webcam. Now he calls them weekly and they do a skype church services once a week… Bangkok to China! :)
Unbelievable what God comes up with!
BTW - I follow your blog ’cause I grew up in Anderson. You need to know something - despite what Perry says, you can live in Anderson and be happy and be Christian and no cheer for Clemson. I did. Just cheer for whoever they are playing against. More often than not - you’ll be the one gloating at the end.
Peace.
