Bible Journey > I John

Here are my thoughts and highlights from I John as I continue my journey through the Bible:

  • John shared out of his experience. He’s just sharing his story through these letters.
  • God wants to forgive us. "If we admit our sins–make a clean breast of them–he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing."
  • "Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived." That’s why it’s important for me to study the Bible to see how Jesus lived.
  • "Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father."
  • Just because Jesus forgives me doesn’t mean I have an excuse to keep on sinning.
  • John equates someone who doesn’t love others to being a murderer. And he encouraged us not to just talk about love, but to practice it. "Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both."
  • "God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves."
  • "He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God."
  • "Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God." That "continuously" part is reassuring.
  • I demonstrate my love for God when I’m obedient to his Word.
  • When we accept Christ, God gives us eternal life with him. We’ll never be separated from him.
