Post #1,000 and I’m Throwing a Comment Party!

It has taken me a little over two years, but this is it. This is post number 1,000! I thought it would be fun to celebrate by throwing my first-ever Blog Comment Party. That’s right. You’re invited to use this post to lay down a comment. The briefer the better. This is an all-play.
Here are some questions to prompt your comments and to start the party:
- What countries are represented (Texas included)?
- What "cool churches" do I need to check out?
- Are there any slammin’ blogs that I need to start following?
- What’s the best leadership book you’ve recently read?
- Is Andy Stanley still lurking?
- Are there any family members who wish I’d call instead of forcing you to read my blog?
- Anyone seen a good I-laughed-so-hard-I-hurt movie recently?
- Does Corey Mann still read my blog?
- Anyone else think Brick House was the best funk song ever written?
- Are you following my blog, but you’re afraid to post a comment because others would know you’re following my blog?
- Anyone out there that’s never posted a comment on any blog?
- Are there any NewSpringers in the house?
The party starts now. Invite your friends. The dress is casual…but please wear something when you’re commenting. I don’t want to have to picture you leaving a comment with just your skivvies on. I’ll provide the food and the music.
Let the Comment Party begin!

Ooo Ooo…By complete accident I get to be first to the party…like the annoying guy who shows up too early before you were actually ready to start the party..
Tony, love your blog man. Found out about you through the Simply Strategic Volunteers Book. It’s been a great blessing to the churches who have received it so far. Thanks for the insight and for keeping it real.
Woohoo! I’m the first. Congratulations, Tony. Check out my blog at desertfather.com, and the church I’m planting in Greenville, NC at harmonygreenville.com. I’m not Andy Stanley.

Book, “Small Is Beautiful” by E.F. Schumacher
It is about empowering your people.
Movie …Wild Hogs
“Brick House” is the greatest except for maybe “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry. Actually, “Love Rollercoaster” by Ohio Players was cool too.

Tony, yours was the first blog I read (started ~16 mos ago) and I didn’t even know it was a “blog,” but I’m glad you brought me into the blogosphere. Congratulations on the big “K”!
Yay! Participation!
Hey Tony,
Checking in from Egypt. I’m the Worship Director at Maadi Community Church, http://www.maadichurch.com and I really enjoy your blog. Not sure how I found it in the first place, but I’m glad I stayed around. If you fancy visiting Cairo, we’ve always got room.
you have the funk song all wrong, its all about parliments “give up the funk”, no doubt.
Shout out from South Africa. Enjoy your blog. Tried to skype you but ya!
Movie: Wild Hogs
Congrats
Ooooh, “blog” party. I thought you said block party. Crap, I wasted all that Axe.
http://www.thegroupleader.com
Tony, Congrats on the post. I got to give one of your books to a “Head Deacon” at a Seventh Day Adventist Church last night. They have boards upon boards…so I thought they might could use a little “reorganization”. Thanks for all you do to make the kingdom more inviting!
Tony,
Great books, great podcast (RIP?), great blog and great church…
Job well done.
I immigrated to NC from Texas in 96 “gig em”. I hope to immigrate to France to plant a church in Paris in 07.
I found your blog on Mark Batterson’s blog after someone emailed me the link to him Riverdancing. Maybe he can Riverdance at your party.
TONY -
Love the blog – have you on MyGoogle. I’m the Worship Director, and a pianist/producer at St. Simons Community Church on St. Simons Island, GA – a beautiful vacation spot! I’m not a Newspringer, but one of my dearest friends is there. Miss the podcast. I’ve got my blog at http://www.fredmckinnon.com and do the Highest Praise Worship Podcast and Worship Interludes podcast, all on iTunes.
Lastly, I’m a die-hard, 100% Mac Addict.
For the Kingdom,
Fred

Great blog. Love reading what Newspring is doing. Shout out here from Columbia, SC.
Hey Tony. Sounds like you’re having a blast at Newspring. They are blessed to have you.
Check out my blog at http://www.pastorjohnatkinson.com.I probably wouldn’t have started it if it wasn’t for you. Yours was the first blog I ever followed.
Also thanks for the kind words you’ve had over the years for Bay Area Fellowship, the church where I serve.
NewSpring in the house.
It’s an AWFUL movie when it comes to morality… but I nearly wet myself over 10 times watching Borat ;-)
I can’t disagree about “Brick House” or “Love Rollercoaster” as the funk song…. The Ohio Players were great but…. “Fire” is much better than “Love Rollercoaster”…. Also how about “We Got the Funk…. Give Up the Funk” by Parliament?????
Hey Tony, Congrats on 1k. Newspringer here!
NewSpringer here!
Me, comment on a blog… never!
I personally like Play That Funky Music
And a leadership book that I got alot out of was Rudy Juliani’s (sp?). I know… he is in politics and controversial. But I did learn something from his book… 1)communication is a must 2)be prepared for anything, because it will happen 3)don’t just set back and assume that someone is doing it, check in on your workers and let them know that you will follow up with them!
Did you say something about short!?!
Reading you from Nevada. Will take this opportunity to promote my husband’s ministry. Check out @The Rock Shop, his weekly internet radio program at http://www.actofgraceradio.net – kind of like a weekly audio blog. Congrats on your ordination – lots to live up to. Thanks for your posts. You open up new insight for me all the time.
Enjoy reading your blog. Found it via the Podcast(miss it too) at christmas when I got my Mp4 player.
Greensboro, NC
hey, thanks for inviting me to the party, I just started reading blogs a couple months ago, and doing my own blogging a little over a month ago. Yours was one of the first I started following. I wouldn’t say mine is a gotta read blog yet, but I’m working on it. Check it out at http://realyouthoughts.blogspot.com. I’d love any pointers, or comments that any of you would like to leave. It’s really exciting to have readers from all over.
Check out this new up and coming church. http://www.myc3church.com They launched 5 months ago and are running over 250. God is really Blessing them and I would say keep an eye out for what this church is about.
Add Tanzania, Africa to your list as we (jonathananddana.com) will be there by summer’s end. We plan to continue reading from there… reading you, that is… reading, too.

Tony,
Love the blog, but I was concerned when I found out you didn’t use a Mac. I always pictured you typing away on one… anyway, you should check out Hill Country Bible Church NW in Austin, TX. (the capital of the Republic) We launched our 5th plant this Easter with over 500 in attendance, and one of our previous church plants, in Plugerville TX, also planted a church this Easter and had over 300 show up! By the end of this year we hope to plant 2 more from our campus and one more from the Pflugerville campus. http://www.hcbc.com

Wow… I have been blogging about the same amount of time and only managed 200 posts (which I just celebrated as well).
This means that in roughly the same amount of time you have posted 5X as much as I have.
That sounds about right for a pastor.
Another NewSpringer who has been reading since well before you were a NewSpringer! Congrats on the 1000th! :)
I’ve been in the mix for a while, but not much of a commenter. I started surfing in Texas back before it meant staring at a computer and googling things.
TONY!!
Brickhouse is excellent and happens to be my ringtone for my future wife.
Thanks for being my boss and pushing me with the graphics for NewSpring!!
Blogs are cool. And so are you.
Tony,
I still read your blog. Hope you guys are doing well.
Alabama is in the house. Love what Newspring and Tony Morgan do for Jesus. Keep it real. It sucks that you guys don’t know what real football is though. Roll Tide Roll!
Tony,
I don’t know how I found your blog, but I love reading it. You inspired me to start my own. Although I’m not as creative as you are, I’m doing my best (been bloging for two weeks now!!). I’m a youth pastor in Fairfield, OH. Keep up the good work. If you ever have some down time check me out and offer some pointers.
Congrats Tony! I’ve been a regular for the past 6 months. Check out theoriginschurch.com, launching in two weeks.
Congratulations!! 1000 posts…WOW!!! My husband Chris(Reeder) and I attended Unleashed 2007 at Newspring. All I can say is that it TOTALLY ROCKED OUR WORLD!!! We are all about being Simply Strategic SOLD OUT JESUS FREAKS!!! Thanks for all you do to encourage, and increase the Kingdom through your blog. You have an awesome way of stretching us out of our boxes, and be all we can be for the cause of Christ.
And yeah, “Brick House” is DA BOMB!!!
Congrats, Tony! Keep up the good work.
Greer, SC
Brick House is a great funk song, but I’ve always been partial to “Burn Rubber” by the Gap Band and “Word Up” by Cameo
Been lurking from Spring Lake, MI for about 9 months. Found your posts from a GCC blogger. Really enjoying your Bible Journey posts. I went out and bought The Message because of it. As for a funny movie – Nacho Libre. Jack Black cracks me up!

Brick House IS ONE OF THE FUNKIEST SONGS EVER!!!!
There once was a guy named Tony,
He was very mature-no bolony,
He once was my boss,
Now I’ve suffered his loss,
I’m not the Andy Stanley-phoney.
So from your friend Corey,
go see BLADES OF GLORY,
and read my blog for the rest of the story.
Yes, I read your blog from time to time,
Not reading would be a blogosphere crime,
You still throw me a link,
Your blog still makes me think,
…..
I ran out of rhyme.
After reading your blog for a few weeks I picked up Simply Strategic Stuff this weekend at the bookstore, and am excited about having a book with short chapters for when I’m ‘tcob.’ I’m a new small groups guy and leadership-wise am loving The Connecting Church. Thanks for your words…
Hey Tony-

Thanks for all the solid food here to chew on. I appreciate you making yourself available by this excellent blog.
September Song by Earth Wind & Fire has always been my favorite.
And (even though my church overseer board would cringe), Anchorman is the funniest movie I have ever seen.

I don’t know if it is “slammin” but my blog is http://icanseerightthroughyou.blogspot.com
My favorite section of your blog is Journey through the Bible.
Glad to be part of the party.
I just wanted to say thank you to Tony Morgan. Since it is a post party, I thought now would appropriate to express my appreciation. I found out about the Unleash Conference from this blog, and as a result have found a source of inspiration and guidance in Newspring. As a minister in a church, and someone hoping to start a new church soon, I have learned a lot from Newspring and this blog. Thanks Tony.
Hey Tony. I enjoy reading your blog. I am a mere hour away from Anderson and am part of a new church plant in Laurens. Check us out!

The good news is…TONY made it to 100 comments!! Yay!!1 :)
YOU ROCK TONY!
Pudge (99, 100) I had this same thought last night, but I withheld myself. Today what I’m thinking is – Tony, we love your blog, so why should we end the party? 100+ and still counting…
NewSpringer in the house!!!
Wild Hogs–hillarious laugh-out-loud movie where the whole theater errupts simultaneously into uncontrollable laughter–lots of good actors too! (I wouldn’t take the kids, though)
Not far down the road from you, here in Taylors, SC. Glad to see you followed my lead coming to a warmer setting than GCC. 1000 blogs! I’m a novice on blogging, and with your accomplishment, I have now had to redefine “reasonable and attainable (blog) goals”. Check out kenjnewton.com when you feel yourself getting too churchy.

You have certainly been an inspiration to get me blogging regularly. And now, many are “tuning in” to my blog who look forward to a few tidbits of inspiration, or to just find out what I’m up to.
UpRising Church is doing just that…rising up! Attendance has really started heading up, people are getting excited, small groups have exploded…and to top it off, people’s lives are being changed!!
I thank you for the help (from afar) that you, Perry and others at NewSpring have given us. You’re awesome!
Blessings,

Congratulations from Braselton, Georgia. Yeah…I’m going to have to go with you on Brick House. Now that would be one great theme song for a building campaign.
Hello from Christ Church in Montevideo, UY. My current best books include “Fighting for Your Marriage” from Jossey-Bass and “Understanding Leadership” by Tom Marshall. I refer to “Simply Strategic Stuff” all the time.
Thx for the blog.
http://www.myspace.com/olathelifefellowship loves you! We’ve grown about 20% in the past 6 months by strategically planning what we do…Tony Morgan…Larry Brey…Bill Hybels…Adam Hamilton…et al have been a big help in that.
Even though I still read books, blogs are my new addiction for real-time ideas for a real-time culture.

Kansas is representin’
Westside is pretty amazing and more amazing is what God is doing to make us clean and renewed.
my blog is pretty great
http://www.pinkhairedgirl.net
“The Peace Maker” by Ken Sande. Our leadership suggested we read it during our difficult times here at Westside. So far, it’s pretty great. And, “When People Are Big and God Is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure” by Edward Welch is another helpful book. I am not sure if these are really “leadership” books but definitely self-evaluation focused.
NewSpringer from the great Megalopolis of Hickory Tavern in the gem of the SC Upstate, Laurens County. We intended for Laurens to be a Country but we some how omitted the “R”…a typo from 1836 that we haven’t gotten around to fixin’….
I tried to be the first to comment, but our “tin cans linked by string” likely delayed my transmission….perhaps I will be the 1000th posted comment?!?!
Keep on bloggin’…look forward to the next 1000
Let’s be honest, I’m not a blogger, and I’ve never read your blog before. But somehow I did today and I’m commenting! Hooray. Hope you are enjoying NewSpring. and I really hope Paul and Beth Marshall haven’t corrupted you yet, because they will :) In a good way of course. You have cute kids.
Congrats on reaching 1,000th. i think I gave up on my blog after about 12 posts, but I now run a community website, so hey! Its my first time here and I like your posts.
Congrats Tony on 1,000! You said in a recent post that you didn’t have an entry on Wikipedia. Look again my friend.
