I’m in Oklahoma this afternoon getting ready to visit LifeChurch.tv for the first time. I’m here with Perry and six others from the NewSpring team. We’re scoping out what’s happening at LifeChurch.tv over the next couple of days to see what we can learn. Here are some other highlights from the day so far:
- My alarm went off at 4:30 a.m. to catch our flight. To be honest, I don’t remember a whole lot from the first few hours of the day. But, somehow, I made it to Oklahoma.
- Perry got up at 2:50 this morning (last night) to exercise. He’s a freak.
- Jason is hoping to see a tornado in Oklahoma.
- I’m going to try to connect with Terry Storch to find out what it’s like to be a new Oklahomian or Oklahomanite or Oklahomer or whatever someone who lives in Oklahoma is called. (Terry and I will also have the chance to compare new hair styles.)
- Perry bought Starbucks at O’Hare. It was the first Starbucks I’ve had in about three months. For the life of me, I can’t understand why there isn’t a Starbucks in Anderson. (If I get a retirement job, I think I might want to be a barista.)
- The sweet tea in Oklahoma isn’t sweet and doesn’t taste much like tea.
- I was planning my session for the Dynamic Church Conference on the flight this morning. It’s a technology conference. I’m trying to figure out how I can be controversial like Perry during my session…even though it’s a technology conference. I have some ideas. And, frankly, if you don’t like them, I may have to punch your computer in the throat.

Look up Sam Roberts at LifeChurch.tv. He’s the resident sweet tea expert!
If you like Mexican food, you must visit Ted’s Cafe Escondido. Ask anyone at Life Church!
What I would give to pick the brains of Perry, Tony and Craig. Mind if I stalk ya’ll during your stay?
And for sweet tea…head to McAlester’s Deli
The last point is so funny! That really made me laugh! Tony, I bet you can pull that off! Take a pic of the computer!
I think it would be phenomenal if you where to bunch a mac….I think tons of people would have a warrant out for your arrest or something….fun times
Welcome to Oklahoma! You may feel like you are in the middle of “nowhereville” but you are in the center of the action! Besides LifeChurch, Edmond is also home to Terrell Sanders founder of the MinistryCom.org conference and Cory Miller from ChurchCommunicationsPro.com. I live here too! Have a great stay, and come back and see us next time too. :)
“Oklahoman’s” don’t do sweet tea so much here–this is man’s country! Stop by Cattleman’s in OKC and get a steak then check out Bricktown!

Dude,
No offense, but South Carolina and even Granger aren’t exactly the most happening places on the planet…..And you think Oklahoma is boring?
Here’s a second for Ted’s Escondido. Even if you don’t like mexican food, Ted’s will change your life. Try “The best Mexican Tacos.”
My wife and I have driven from Dallas for Teds. On more than one occasion.
I was married at the church next door to Life Church. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a multi-site wedding.
Tony,
Welcome to Oklahoma! Just in case you missed it we’re called “Oklahoman’s”. Sounds a little more manly than a “Carolinaian” you would have to admit.
I’m having lunch with Bobby G. from LifeChurch.tv tomorrow. If you and your team have a few moments, stop by the church next door, Henderson Hills. We’re not your typical Baptist church. Seems like we might have a few things in common with New Spring.

Tony,
I haven’t followed it up yet but my wife, who works at Anderson County Behavioral Health as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, says that a mini-mall under construction behind Golden Corral will have a Starbucks. Don’t know if this is true but I will start the prayer chain.
Tony,
I hope you fare better than the Joad family during your visit to Oklahoma…whatever you do, don’t follow any urges to go west instead of east, at the conclusion of your visit…and during your stay, see if you can find out what the heck Grapes had to do with Mr. Steinbeck’s book.
Don’t want to bum you out, cause I know travel is hard enough, but I hope y’all gain a lot from your visit to OK, because you missed God delivering an incredibly awesome message of truth, reassurance, and hope from the mouth of Clayton King at NewSpring’s First Wednesday service. It was an answer, only God could provide, to one of life’s most challenging questions.
Anybody who missed it needs to check out the Podcast at NewSpring.CC
Anyway, gain knowledge, be well, and bring our NewSpring team home safe and sound.
I thought they were called “Oklahomaphiles”……
Hey, Tony: They announced in the Anderson Independent (I’m sure it’s online somewhere) this morning that a Starbucks is going in across from Ruby Tuesday in Anderson (along with Kohl’s and Staples)!! WOO-HOO!!!!
Okay, so it says it “might be” a Starbucks. I found the link for yah! http://www.independentmail.com/news/2007/may/02/new-retailers-could-be-headed-clemson-boulevard/
First of all, anyone who exercises that early in the morning needs to get saved because they are obviously running from something. Second, I don’t think it’s very godly to punch computers in the throat. Mine happens to be very sick, already runs slow (probably needs to workout with Perry), and is pretty new in it’s walk with Vista.
Anyways, have a great conference. All of us normal people are very envious and jealous and are going to have to spend some time in prayer.

The old ladies at my church say the sweet tea here is just fine.
An Okie
Welcome to a part of the country with personality: Oklahoma is western, Southern, pseudo-Texan and Midwestern, dependin’ on which direction ya head out from Oklahoma City.
Anderson? I spent a week in Anderson one day. It’s like a suburb without a city.
Just ribbin’ ya for badmouthin’ our sweet tea. It’s more common in the southeast part of the state, which is called Little Dixie for many reasons.
Speakin’ of ribs: Beef ribs at The County Line Restaurant, either in Oklahoma City or Edmond, is a must.
