Online Services, Short Stories and Sexy Scripture
Here are some of the random thoughts that have been cluttering my brain in recent days:
- If online TV viewing is going up (thanks Simplicity), doesn’t it stand to reason that online service viewing will also go up? And, if that’s the case, shouldn’t churches be investing more in their online experiences?
- Speaking of online TV viewing, I’ve been playing with Joost over the last couple of months. Love the simple user interface. They have lots of video content and more on the way.
- Seth Godin has an insightful quote:
“I’m sometimes frustrated by the long stories,” said Rupert Murdoch about the Wall Street Journal. I’m a firm believer in length being almost as important as the content. - You’ve probably heard that Google is coming out with their own presentation solution that will compete with PowerPoint. Two thoughts: I wonder if I’ll ever by Microsoft Office again. And, I wonder if anyone still uses PowerPoint.
- I’ve been reading through Ezekiel in recent days. It includes references to "provocative lingerie" and "sluttish sex" and various body parts being "caressed and fondled." This book makes my Maroon 5 songs look tame.
- We moved recently into our new home in Anderson. That, of course, meant I had to let a number of companies know about my address change. I had four interactions with one company before I could get one of the utilities disconnected at our apartment. Then they wanted me to pay for the additional time that the service was connected…due to their inefficiencies. I had to make two more calls to correct that. In an effort to be cost-effective, I think most companies have completely abandoned the value for quality customer service. I, for one, will pay a premium to companies that treat me like a human being and make it easier for me to transact business. It’s just challenging to find those companies.

Hay Tony, I love your blog. You have any Joost invites to spare?
Tony,
I have been using open office sense I went MAC, however in the last several months I have moved to Google. I use JOTT to send todo’s to my Gmail account. I have Google Calendar set up to send my appointments to my cell phone each day. Thus eliminating my old Treo! Love it!
Mitch
Thanks for the Joost invite Tony! BTW, the members of our creative arts team all keep a close eye on this blog. It is frequently quoted in our meetings. We’re learning a lot!
For anyone that’s interested, I have more Joost invites available.
tony
I appreciate your blog Tony. I lurk here often. I would love a Joost invite if you still have them available.
Thanks!
I still use PowerPoint, but its days are numbered …
The C3 Conference quote by Ed Young comes to mind … “What IF becomes What IS and then it becomes What ISN’T”
Ezekiel 23:20 is the greatest, “I can’t believe that’s in there,” verse in the whole Bible!
I would love a Joost invitation if you have more available. Thanks.
Tony-
can i get an invite to Joost, please??? it looks amazing! thanks, flaviu – the student guy from Braselton.
Tony,
love the blog.
would love a joost invite.
Chad
Thanks for doing what you do! You’re a treasure chest of info.
How do I go about getting a Joost invite from you?
As a long-time lurker, I feel obligated to request a joost invite too. They do appear to be hard to get. Thanks for offering.
Tony,
Great Blog!
Would love to have an invite to Joost!
Joe
Looks like I’m not the only one scrounging around for a joost invite…Can you hook a brutha up?
Online TV viewing ‘on the rise’
BBC reporting: Almost half of European broadband users are using their computers to watch television online, a survey claims. The ability to “take control” of their viewing was the motivation for many users said Motorola, which interviewed 2,500 people…
Tony. What copyright stuff do you have to have going on before you can actually show the entire services online like you guys do? With all those copyrighted songs and such. Are you just going through CCLI or is it more involved. I have always been a bit weary about putting the worship part up because of the licensing side of things.
Thanks man
Carlos
Yes, it involves more than CCLI. There is special licensing available for web streaming. I’m not the expert in that area though. Maybe someone else can jump in with those details.
tony
OK – I’ll bite. So what should I be using instead of PowerPoint? It needs to be portable enough to use on various machines, and easy. We are currently inserting PowerPoint into Easy Worship.
Been a huge fan of your blog. It’s a daily read.
I’d love an invite to Joost if you have any available.
Thanks.
I’m a little late asking, but do you have any more Joost invites?
not too sure if you have any more, but could you send me an invite to joost.
Hey Tony–been a big fan of the blog–great stuff… could you throw a joost invite my way?
