I’ve had a couple of great days hanging out in Dallas with ministry peers and the Fellowship Technologies team. Here are some highlights so far:
- I’ve had the chance to meet several folks from the FT team. For some odd reason, most of them seem to be named Jeff or Curtis.
- The hotel/conference center we’re staying in is off-the-charts cool. It’s a great environment for this event. (Rumor has it the conference will be back in the same location next May.)
- By the way, the hotel soap is large, has a great scent and has the words "smile now" etched into the bar. It’s a very good bar of hotel soap. I’m definitely giving it an "A."
- Jeff Hook, FT’s CEO and President ran through a lot of information last night about the company and their mission. In addition to NewSpring, FellowshipOne is used by many of the biggest churches in the country. They’re also beginning to see churches under 500 in attendance take advantage of their web-based solution.
- This morning, Curtis Simmons talked about some of the recent enhancements of FellowshipOne and some of the new stuff that’s coming. (OK, so the dude was funny too.)
- Amanda and Skye have been checking out the breakout sessions. They’re learning some great things to bring back to our ministry so we can make better use of our technology.
- I ran into Terry yesterday in "First Life." I understand he hangs out in "Second Life" as well at the virtual LifeChurch.tv campus. My brain can’t keep up with Terry’s brain. He’s thinking about stuff that won’t register in my mind for years to come. He’s freaky smart.
- The boys on the audio/visual team ran me through warm up drills this morning for the big session tomorrow. I think they were baffled. Something tells me they were expecting someone else. I guess someone forgot to tell them I speak like a blogger. :-)
- Bob gave me the update on what’s happening at Springcreek Community Church in Garland, TX. Among other things, their getting ready to expand their facility.
- Also ran into Dave and Jim from NorthRidge Church in Plymouth, MI near Detroit. They shared some inside scoop on what’s coming next for NorthRidge. Sounds like Brad Powell has a big vision.
- We walked over to the mall this evening. I got a little present for Emily. I like getting little presents for my wife.
Looking forward to tomorrow. I promise that I’ll also share with you the "10 Stupid Technology Mistakes that Churches Make" after I’m done speaking.
