Free Music Downloads…with a Catch

Spiralfrog_logo
I’ve been trying out the new music download service, Spiral Frog, the last few days. The price is right. It’s free. There are currently over 800,000 songs available. However, there are limitations.

  • You have to renew your free membership every 30 days in order to download more music and to play your previous downloads.
  • You can’t transfer your music to your iPod; however, apparently the music works on some portable devices.
  • You can’t burn your music onto CDs.
  • You can’t download anything by Justin Timberlake, so you won’t be bringing sexy back.

Aside from that, the service works. I’ve downloaded about 20 songs. There are times when the site is really slow. I imagine they’re getting slammed with curiosity seekers like me. If you’re looking for free music to blog by, though, this may be a service to check out.

Thanks, Tony, but if I can’t get my sexy back then forget it!

Hey Tony. Have you tried pandora.com? You can type in an artist or genre and they’ll play songs that go along with it. It’s free internet radio that you can customize to your taste.

    It’s pretty cool.

    Tony,

While I haven’t tried this with Spiral Frog downloads yet, I have used this method (using Audacity) to convert other legally acquired audio to MP3. Might want to give it a try and see if you can get the tunes onto your iPod. Lemme know if it works.
