I’m not sure why, but I get a lot of folks emailing me and asking for me to recommend or link to something from my blog. As you know, I do highlight and recommend products, books, blogs, etc. from time to time. However, I do that on my initiative. So, if you’re considering emailing me to do the same, here a few things you need to know:

  1. I’m not going to recommend a book I haven’t read. If you want me to recommend your book, you’ll have to send me a copy. Of course, you also need to know that I receive more books than I could ever read. So, just because you send it to me, doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to read it or blog about it.
  2. I’m probably not going to recommend an event I’m not planning to attend…especially if I’ve never been there before.
  3. I don’t have time to check out new websites or blogs when folks email me looking for a link from my blog. Here’s my recommendation if you’re considering doing that–create good content. If you do, I’ll hear about it, and then there’s a chance I’ll link to it.
  4. I don’t have time to hunt through your site looking for something I want to read. If you choose to ignore #3 and decide to go ahead and email me, your best bet is to link to something that you think I’d be interested in reading. If you don’t know what I’m interested in, you shouldn’t email me.
  5. I like free. I’m probably not going to recommend your online resource unless it’s free. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, we just uploaded lots of new, free resources from NewSpring.
  6. I like gadgets. If you own a company that makes gadgets. I can be bought. I’d be happy to try out your new technology and let the world know about it.

Really. I’m not trying to be mean. I’m just trying to save you from going through a lot of unnecessary time and effort. My guess is other bloggers will also appreciate it if you are sensitive to these suggestions.
