Ready to Write for Television

In case you missed the big news, the film and television writers went on strike today. That’s bad news for a lot of people, but I think there may be a silver lining for me. I’ve always had this dream of being a writer for a comedy television show. I’d take a prime time series or a stint with a late-night talk show–either one. So, if you are a television producer and you need someone to step in and be a scab for a few weeks or months, I’m your guy.

Here are some other professions I’ve thought about pursing in the past if it weren’t for this whole ministry calling thing:

  • hotel manager
  • professional golf pro
  • magazine editor
  • agent for professional athletes
  • television news anchor
  • architect
  • advertising agency executive
  • Congressman
  • college professor
  • real estate developer

Emily could probably add a few more to the list. What would you be if you weren’t what you are? Or, more importantly, are you sure you are what you should be?

I would be a college basketball play-by-play guy. right now I am chaplain at a Christian School in San Juan Capistrano, CA, and I know that is where I am suppose to be for now.

I grew up wanting to be a bird. However, I’ve found that to be more challenging than originally expected. Thus, I guess my next best options (after ministry, of course) would be as follows:

    1. Professional Breakdancer
    2. Mail Carrier (like Doug Heffernen from King of Queens)
    3. Game Show Host
    4. College Professor
    5. High School Coach
    6. Broadway actor

The birthday party clown in college gig didn’t hold a lot of promise so I went with being a physical therapist. It’s been great but I know now I am being called into ministry–and it is awesome!!!

I had always dreamed of making an impact on people for as long as I can remember. I always promised God I would do anything other than being a pastor. God has a sense of humor and now I am a youth pastor and I love it.

If worship ministry wasn’t my calling, here are a few directions I would have considered.

    1. Politician (try and fix the world)
    2. Ad Exec (commercialize the world)
    3. Film Director (Entertain the world)
    4. Professional Roadie (ROCK the world!!!)

I’m glad ministry worked out :)

Oh! A professional golf pro huh? Know a guy who IS a professional golf pro, professional golfer, and it IS a part of his calling in the ministry. His name is Jeffrey Cranford. It is being done.

Absolutely love being in the ministry. It combines every thing else I would possibly want to do.. be. I wouldn’t trade it for a million bucks or a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Not bad considering we’re in transition….

The following have been considered in my past:

    1. Travel Agent (love to travel)
    2. Hotel Manager (love to travel)
    3. Flight Attendant (love to travel)
    4. Restaurant Owner/Manager (love to eat & travel)

But alas…I am the administrative assistant to our Senior Pastor and I love it…I know that God has called me to this position!

I think being a garbage collector would be cool. Think about all the great stuff you could get for free that people just throw away.

    Here’s my list:

    1. Play-by-play announcer for the Cincinnati Reds
    2. Stand-up comedian
    3. Talk show host

I’ve already been an Ad Exec (it wasn’t my calling). And yes, I’m absolutely certain I am what I should be.

I always wanted to be a garbage man (rock out saving freak), or a fire truck. Kind of in a transformer sense. I could be real useful for pool parties, or making a slip and slide anywhere in the world… not to mention the whole fighting fire thing. I would use my powers for good. And then when I got old and needed engine repair, I would probably retire and go into some sort of culinary art, like making Oreos with peanut butter and cover them with chocolate.

You know, you could be a fake architect like George Constanza. That way you could stay in ministry and “dabble” in architecture on the side. Just a thought.

I’m a magazine editor (I can help you with your dream!), and it is grand, but I think I’d really enjoy being Ernest Hemingway. I mean, aside from the depression, suicide, turbulent social life and extra-marital affairs. Of course.

I grew up wanting to be a fire truck. It hasn’t happened yet, but I am still praying through it. So here is my list of what you should look to do:

    1. Architect.

Thats it. It was a great profession for me and still is. I gots tha hook up on books if you want to take a gander. Come over to my cube.

    Tony,
Two jobs that I think would be awesome:

Horse Whisperer, I mean that is powerful stuff when you can whisper commands to a 1400 pound creature…and they obey

    or

The guy who trains dogs to sniff out bombs, drugs, and bad guys in general…..how cool would it be to let a big ol’ ball of teeth and fur loose on someone with bad intentions?????

But for now I am just happy managing logistics for money and volunteering on NewSpring’s Production Team……

Hey Tony? I hear that the writers for 24 are a part of the strike.

    I’m just sayin’…..
