Dulcimers, Dells and Ditching Outlook

Here’s a random brain dump from recent days…
- Check out the picture that Brad sent me. It’s from the new Starbucks in Clemson that opened last night. Know what that means? Starbucks is getting closer to Anderson. Maybe someday…
- Last night, I bought a new "kid’s computer" from Dell with a flat panel monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, built-in wireless and a hard drive 20 times the size of the computer it’s replacing for only $559. That’s just crazy.
- I’ve been playing with Xobni (that’s "inbox" backwards) in Outlook. There are functions that mimic some of the desirable features of Gmail. Honestly, if Google had an easy method for pulling email messages into some sort of task management solution, I’d be voting to ditch Outlook.
- We had a guy playing the dulcimer in our services today. You know it’s going to be a good day when the band is rocking the dulcimer.
- We had one of the biggest non-holiday weekends in NewSpring history today. Amazing! Just a normal Sunday in January and everyone decided to show up. Guess lots of folks are ready to "Crank It Up."
- Favorite Perry quote of the day: "Christians are way too obsessed about the behavior of people who don’t know Christ."
- Steven Furtick’s crew from Elevation Church is throwing down the gauntlet for Unleash. Rumor has it they’re trying to rally 100 folks to join us for the one-day conference.
- I have one third of my next book manuscript completed. This is the fun part. The not-so-fun-part is that last 10,000 words.

Tony,
I’m a huge fan of Gmail and also the task organizer Remember the Milk. Remember the Milk has http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/gmail/” rel=”nofollow”>a Firefox extension that promises tight integration with Gmail. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but it looks like it has potential. Might be the solution you’re looking for.
Tony – Agree about the computer thing. Just bought one for my kiddos (all teens). But I took the plunge and decided to go the Apple route, even with less computing power and memory. So far it’s a huge success. By success I mean that we handed it over to them Christmas morning and I haven’t had to struggle trying to download software, wrestle with connection, call a non-human help line, or any other endeavor that might cause me to fall into sin :)
I just met up with a guy from Xobni and he said I had to get an invite from someone … any chance you’ve got one left and can pass it my way? mike [at] mcfaddenplace [dot] com.
In the meantime, it appears if I invite a few folks they’ll send me a promo code. Looking forward to it.
Two followups re: the RTM Firefox extension for Gmail:
1. It only works with the new version of Gmail, which hasn’t yet been rolled out for users of Google Apps (unless you opt into getting new features sooner as seen here).
2. I installed and have been using the extension (after opting in for the new version of Gmail in Google Apps) for a couple of days, and it’s phenomenal. Highly recommended.
