I’m blogging from the balcony at C3 this morning. Tommy Barnett from Phoenix First opened the day with a message encourage pastors not to quit ministry. Here are some of the highlights of his message…
- “Nothing has changed our church like Jesus and FellowshipOne.”
- Tommy is telling people to buy his books and CDs.
- “When I think of quitting, I think of becoming a cab driver.”
- “I have wanted to quit, and so have you.”
- “There’s honor in wanting to quit.”
- “Wanting to quit is a sign of success.”
- “The more you have to quit the more you want to quit.”
- “You can enjoy the luxury of wanting to quit if you know you’re not going to quit.”
- “If you have quality, you’ll have quantity.”
- It’s the call of God that drives you.
- Sometimes it takes two cups of coffee to get me going on Monday morning. “Starbucks has kept me in the ministry.”
- Do you ever feeling like leaving your wife. “No, but sometimes I feel like killing her.”
- “You have to burn the bridges behind you.”
- Decide whats important and commit the rest of your life to it.
- Don’t tell anyone you want to quit, because they may take you up on it.
- I hope I’m as vibrant as Tommy when I’m in my 70s. (I don’t know if I’m as vibrant as Tommy in my 30s.)
- In the last 5 five years, 19 people have given me a $1 million or more to further the work of God’s Kingdom.
- Lots of Dream Center stories were shared.
- Don’t quit.

For his 60th birthday Tommy ran from Phoenix to Los Angeles. It took 19 days and was the equitant to running a major marathon every single day. And that was before Starbucks became popular!!! Two years ago he told me he was thinking about swimming from San Francisco to Alcatraz for his 70th birthday, but he was concerned about sharks. If anyone else had said that to me I would say to myself, “ya right”, but Tommy Barnett is a remarkable man and visionary! Vibrant is a good word although I don’t think there is an English word to describe his energy and passion!
Thanks so very much for all your C3 updates. One of these days I am going be there!
