Men are MIA in U.S. Churches
"In the Pew survey 7.3 percent of the adult population said they were
unaffiliated with a faith as children. That segment increases to 16.1
percent of the population in adulthood, the survey found. The
unaffiliated are largely under 50 and male. ‘Nearly one-in-five men say
they have no formal religious affiliation, compared with roughly 13
percent of women.’"
With men under 50 being the largest group that doesn’t have a religious affiliation, I’m glad we’re launching a series on Easter that’s specifically targeted to men.
For the rest of the stats on religious affiliation from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life survey, see the recent New York Times article.

This is sad but not surprising. Thats why I love to hear when churches are being planted to target a male audience.
Now this banner I like
Maybe it’s because most of our churches look like they’ve been decorated by middle-aged women … it’s the same thing that happens when we get married: our cool bedrooms, which we virtually live in get turned into boutiques that we can’t stand!!

Ask yourself what the church is doing to attract MEN.
Answer, not much.
Churches are reaping what they sow. The churches that do well with men are doing manly things. Sports, men outings, teachings to empower a man to be a man.
Brad Stein, a Christian comedian puts it well when he says its the sissification of man. We want them to fit our touchy feely mode, instead of letting them be men.
Sunday service has great competition for a man. Think of men activities and whey they take place… Saturday night, Sunday morning (hunting, fishing, camping, football, etc…)
