Conviction

In going through old blog posts, I found this from a couple of years ago:

Real
faith is dynamic. It’s controversial. It’s dangerous. It’s constantly
growing. It asks challenging questions. It involves mystery. You
can’t put it in a box. You can’t keep it quiet. You can’t out-grow
it. You can’t out-dream it. It’s more focused on others than it is on
self. Real faith gives me peace but makes me discontent to let things
stay the same.

I think I’m going to stop reading my old blog posts. It’s safer that way.

Yeah…I try not to read many of my old posts either, the same thing always happens to me. I’m just glad my wife doesn’t print them out and hang them around the house.

    Tony,
Thanks man, recently I’ve found myself surrounded by a lot of faithful controversy and danger. A feeling of simultaneous “peace and discontent” has marked my life.

Honestly – it’s been tough to find people to validate this. Most people I talk to seem to be saying, “Be safe – faith shouldn’t be that dangerous.”

I appreciate that you put this up.

Excellent quote… You just happened to sum up in that very quote exactly what I was writing about today.

Speaking of old blog posts … It’s time to revive the Simply Strategic Show. We gave you more than a year to move and settle in to your new job. Bonus: you and Tim would have a more interesting podcast now by talking about two different churches in different regions with different ministry approaches and strategies. Just doing the show would model collaboration of a too-rare kind that would inspire more collaboration among large churches. What do you say?
