Unleash 2008: Perry Noble Part 1
Perry opened up the Unleash Conference and welcomed everyone to Anderson and the South. Then he began to talk about what God wants to do his Church…
- "I’ve been praying God will set off an alarm in your Church."
- "What is it that God wants to do in your church?"
- "When he tells you, quit telling him you can’t do it."
- Luke 15:25-27
- "I just upset a vegetarian. That’s alright. Go hug a tree."
- "The problem is we have inspiration, but we don’t have revelation."
- "If NewSpring is the watermark for your church, you’re screwed."
- "Only people that get mad when you preach on adultery…"
- "Only people that get mad when you preach on tithing…"
- "What are the barriers that stand in our way?"
- Luke 15:28-31
- "The older generation seems to always get mad at the younger generation."
- Barrier to overcome: Refusal to change
- "At times I’ve hamstrung the creative process at our church."
- God killed and buried Moses. (Deut. 34:5-6) Next chapter Joshua (Josh 1) picked up the leadership role. God had to kill and bury what was old in order to get his people where they needed to go. He wanted to do something brand new. "Don’t let your personal preferences get in the way."
- Barrier to overcome: Jealousy
- "We don’t celebrate real good together."
- Be careful what you speak against. It could be the Holy Spirit that you’re speaking against.
- Perry just told the story of Pete from Chris Elrod’s church.
- Barrier to overcome: Lack of understanding
- "I thought it was a small scoop of mashed potatoes."
- "Quit telling God what he can’t do."
- "This is the organization that will last forever."
- "What do we want to celebrate?"
- "Baptists are going green, because they think God is green. You can recycle every day for the rest of your life, but people will still die and go to Hell if they don’t know Jesus."
- "God’s not wringing his hands in Heaven about who gets elected. God doesn’t care who is in office. You can vote Republican or Democrat and still go to Hell."
- "My job from this stage is to tell people who Jesus Christ is. It’s our job to lift up the name of Jesus."
- "Don’t sell out to another agenda other than Jesus."
- "We celebrate people meeting Jesus."
- Luke 15:32
- God’s not celebrate recycling, election victories or Disney boycotts.
- "I’ve been praying God will set our butts on fire."

These are great ideas; love Perry’s thinking and leadership. A slightly different take is from an article we did in Jan/Feb 08 Rev! called 2018; future trends impacting the church now. Thanks for your leadership, Tony.

Dang it. Wish I could have been there. Perry is a great leader who seems to not be afraid to say what needs to be said. Good on ya.
Take care Tony.

I think God celebrates recycling because it means that we are taking care of God’s creation… it may not get us to heaven, but it sure does show some respect to God and God’s stuff!
Truth be told… Perry recycles. However, the point he was trying to make is that churches (and denominations) walk on dangerous ground when they let other agendas (like going “green”) supersede our primary agenda which is the Gospel message. People need to hear about Jesus. Jesus changes hearts…and actions.

very cool… I agree! I just wanted to point that out, and I’m glad to hear it! :)
