Get Your Strategy On
From this morning’s Advertising Age article by Michael Bush…
"If there are any marketers out there who still believe the world of
social networks is filled only with young nerdy types and weirdos
looking to hook up, they need to take a good second look. Not only is
it a prime target for marketers looking to reach moms — the
all-important gatekeeper of the household — but within some of the
most popular networks, such as Facebook, a significant percentage of
users are over the age of 35."
Anyone have any specific stories or stats to share about how you have used social networking to reach your community? I’d love to hear about tangible results–not just theory of "we’re doing it and we think we’re making an impact."

Well because of the blog-world and knowing about Elevation, we were able to get a church member of ours who had a terrible motorcycle accident in NC and was taken to a Charlotte hospital visited by one of the pastors @ Elevation. When the wife of the motorcycle victim got there (3 hour trip), she was greeted by the pastor and it helped make an impact on that couple.

I would say if it was not for our Companies presence online, our innovation, and that we are culturally relevant we would not have the quick sales we have had. Christopher Rivers

We have had an incredible response through our web church, (http://www.myspace.com/myspacechurch08). I post weekly excerpts from what I taught in our young adult community,ZAO, the week before. In just about six weeks we have over 4,000 unique views, and now nearly 800 friends, including the churched, de-churched and un-churched, and other ministries. We even have some who are actively in the porn industry. Recently, after a series on sex, I had a male porn star message me and ask for prayer and advice on how to get out of the business. God will use almost any medium to change peoples lives…

Hi Tony,
My Single’s Ministry has just started using Facebook as the primary way we communicate and plan events. Since our single’s ministry is very active with events, Facebook provided a way for us to decentralize our event planning and to still allow for “church approval” of the individual events.
I will also be doing regular teaching videos on the facebook “group” page since it is so easy to get a video message out on facebook.
We have just finished our beta run and even though we are at the very beginning (with our public release being this friday) we believe facebook will take community to a whole new level for Canyon Ridge’s Single Adults.
P.S. I’ll be posting, on my blog, a complete step by step instruction of how I set up the facebook group and how I have volunteers submit events for ministry approval through facebook this Friday.

Tony, We’ve never met, but I used to be a part of New Spring back in the early days. Moved to Columbia a few years ago to help start a church here. Our church has a lot of college students, and we use Facebook for a large part of our communication. Most notably, we had an event a few months ago that was designed to help homeless people in our city. We wanted people other than our small church involved, so we encouraged people to join the Facebook event and mention it in their “status,” etc. This connected with many people that we would not have otherwise. Im not sure if you can view it, but the event is here:
