Get Your Strategy On
Before I get to today’s big announcement, let me share a story with you. In yesterday’s Greenville News, there was an article about a recent survey of Greenville residents on the topic of race. They surveyed 1,200 people. There were 32 questions on race. They shared the findings of the survey last week. This is the quote that captured my attention. One of the executive directors of the organizations that initiated the survey shared: "There’s greater religious tension in Greenville than racial tension. That surprised me."
Here’s why that quote should disturb us. Jesus said:
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me" (John 17:20-23).
So, instead of responding to the call of Jesus to be unified with other believers, we are known for our "religious tension." Jesus clearly states our efforts in ministry will fail unless believers are united in God’s love and grace. Is it any wonder the majority of people in Greenville are unchurched?
With that, let me share the news about today’s big announcement. Check out the next post.
