Willow News, Vision, Business Cards and Twitter

With travel and the book project, I haven’t had a lot of time to blog over the last couple of weeks. There are a lot of random items that have been stacking up. Here are some links that I’ve been meaning to share:

Shane Duffey, our creative arts pastor at NewSpring, has started blogging.
Pudge has been named the children’s ministry director at the NewSpring Greenville Campus.
I’ve started using Jott to send text and email messages to myself and others. It converts voice to text.
The news that Willow is dropping their midweek service was stunning. But, honestly, it’s consistent with what I just read in Simple Church.
I tried to use the Google Calendar Sync today and inadvertently royally messed up my calendar. Still have a lot of my appointments, but not all of them. The good news is that I instantly have more time in my schedule.
I thought this post from Perry on vision was amazing.
Non-profits are missing online fundraising opportunities.
I sent all my business cards to Chris. I don’t intend to ever use business cards again. So, Chris may want to hold on to those bad boys. They could become collectors items.
My apologies to the MinistryTECH crowd. I’ve been slow in naming a winner to our blogging/Twitter contest. Trevor won.
There’s a chance my Twitter subscribers will exceed the number of my Facebook friends sometime in the next week or so. It appears that Twitter has a whole lot more momentum than Facebook.

I just wrote (that was a lie–I’m in the middle of writing) a literature review about public relations, the internet, and nonprofit organizations. All the research I used supports the same thing that this article is about. Funny that the people who need support the most aren’t making use of the best tool for getting it.

When I worked for the American Cancer Society we found that (this was really before internet giving) if you sent people a request for money and they answered it you should give them the opportunity to give again with their thank you note. We would mail to many donors as many as 9 times a year and they would give all nine times. I hate to see non profits leave money on the table when people are passionate about a cause and have the money they will give. But they need information to make them passionate - vision!

I found the news about Willow’s mid-week service quite predictable. It had gone from 8,000+ in attendance during the John Ortberg era to around 3,000 to 3,500 in recent months.

You knew numbers that I didn’t know, Tim. But, honestly, what’s most “stunning” about that news is that Willow paved the way for the model of having a weekend “seeker” service and a midweek “believers” service. Now, it appears, they’re combining the two. That’s a huge shift.

Hope we get to hear/read more about the thought that has gone into that change.
