  • 4:18 PM tony morgan - Pete is going to share some of his own thoughts first.
  • 4:20 PM tony morgan - There are acceptable failures and unacceptable failures.
  • 4:21 PM tony morgan - Pete just talked about losing folks from Bent Tree to Chuck Swindoll’s church and Matt Chandler’s church.
  • 4:22 PM tony morgan - “most tv preachers are deceitful and have impure motives.”
  • 4:24 PM tony morgan - failure begins with impure motives.
  • 4:25 PM tony morgan - “success is creating communities where sharing the Gospel is the center of it all.”
  • 4:26 PM tony morgan - Tim Keller is going to take the platform next.
  • 4:27 PM tony morgan - they have a countdown clock on the screen to let us know how long the speakers have.
  • 4:28 PM tony morgan - tim has another 17 minutes.
  • 4:29 PM tony morgan - “we base our self worth on how our ministry is doing.”
  • 4:31 PM tony morgan - “you’ve got to go after God for blessing.”
  • 4:31 PM tony morgan - “and you have to let him lame you.”
  • 4:32 PM tony morgan - first time i’ve heard tim keller live. seems like the smart-fatherly-type.
  • 4:37 PM tony morgan - “we are looking for blessing in the wrong places.”
  • 4:38 PM tony morgan - tim said those of us in ministry go to people for blessing.
  • 4:39 PM tony morgan - “human blessing will kill you because it never seems to last more than 5 minutes.”
  • 4:42 PM tony morgan - “you never learn how to pray through good times. you learn how to pray through bad times.”
  • 4:43 PM tony morgan - “about the only way we’ll be spiritually successful is to fail.”

  • 5:07 PM tony morgan - God referred to peter as satan. he sunk in the water. he cut off a ear. he denied Christ 3 times. peter failed.
  • 5:08 PM tony morgan - God forgave peter. he experienced the grace of Jesus. forgiven failure. preached at Pentecost. 3,000 people saved. God used a failure named peter.
  • 5:09 PM tony morgan - “You try. You fail. You learn. You adjust. You try. You fail. You learn. You adjust.”
  • 5:09 PM tony morgan - “don’t play it safe. you always have to be willing to bet the farm.”
  • 5:09 PM tony morgan - “failure isn’t an option. it’s an absolute necessity.”

  • 5:21 PM tony morgan - “works righteousness pervades ministry motive.”
  • 5:21 PM tony morgan - “attendance goes down. God is not good.”
  • 5:22 PM tony morgan - “works righteousness is pervasive.”
  • 5:22 PM tony morgan - “i love numbers. i love to measure things. righteousness is very hard to measure.”
  • 5:23 PM tony morgan - (mark is wearing a t-shirt with a picture of jesus on the front of it. jesus freak.)
  • 5:24 PM tony morgan - “if you’re righteousness comes from Christ, i don’t need to use you. i can love you.”
  • 5:25 PM tony morgan - “this leads to the ability to take risks.”
  • 5:25 PM tony morgan - “if i’m under constant pressure to maintain righteousness, i become risk aversive.”
  • 5:26 PM tony morgan - “those that are risk addicted become addicted to controversy. that’s my proclivity.”

  • 5:27 PM tony morgan - “i’m willing to do whatever jesus tells me to do.”
  • 5:28 PM tony morgan - “we are all by nature and choice sinners.”

  • 5:33 PM tony morgan - “you may just fail. are you ok with that? you’ll still have jesus.”
