Spotlight EP by MuteMath

Thanks to lala.com, you can listen to the new Spotlight EP from MuteMath. You can listen to the EP all the way through one time here. After that, you’ll only get 30-second streams.

lala.com is an interesting service. You can purchase most songs for 10 cents if you just listen to the songs from the web. You can also purchase MP3 downloads. Usually it’s cheaper than iTunes.

Let me know what you think of the new EP and lala.com.

Better Than Oprah

It really doesn’t matter what you think of Killing Cockroaches. This is the only book review that matters. My mom wrote me last night. Here’s what she had to share:

Dear son,

I came home from school today and found a package in my mailbox.  It was your book!!  I looked at it and I ran the cockroaches across the pages a few times.  My usual routine when I come home from school is get comfortable…sit in my recliner…and prepare to watch Oprah. I decided to change routines today and sit and start your book. Not only are you responsible for me missing Oprah but believe it or not I even missed American Idol.  If you talk to my friends you know that is unheard of for me to do.

It was the right decision!  What a powerful book!  I am always amazed at your talent to write.  This book is my favorite. I so enjoy how you presented your ideas. You are so right about learning from story telling. You had some great stories to relate to your projected points.  And yes…humor is important. I laughed out loud a few times.  It is kind of funny how your mother is still watching over you as you blog and twitter…but I don’t care…I love it! I’m 61 and I can do whatever I want.

On a more serious note…you had a lot of  GREAT or I should say AMAZING observations and ideas to encourage church leaders. I liked your dialogue with other leaders.  There is so much more…I will need to call you and talk to you soon about the book.

Why do I always use  (…)  when I type?

I love you so much dear son!

Momma-Jo

I love you too, Mom! Thanks for writing your note. I just wish you would have included that part where you tell people I was the “perfect kid” growing up. That’s my favorite part.

I ordered a Kindle 2.

kindleI placed the order yesterday. I’ve been wanting to get a Kindle for months, but I decided to wait until version 2.0 came out. Yesterday was the day. I believe it will ultimately be for books what the iPod did for music. Of course, I’m not really going to commit to that position until I try it for myself. We’ll see how it goes.

I do know that for the past six weeks I haven’t cracked open a Bible. Instead I’ve been reading the Bible online using YouVersion. I’ve loved the transition. Of course, the advantage with YouVersion is that I’m enjoying the Bible in community with others. Books aren’t there yet. Maybe the Kindle is a step closer to that happening.

Are you ready to try this new technology? If so, you may:

This should be an interesting experiment. I’ve not been this intrigued by a new technology in a long time.

Unleash 2009 is sold-out!

Mike Fiedler from TrueNorth Church in North Augusta, South Carolina bought the last registrations for Unleash 2009. The event is sold-out. We didn’t even make it to the early bird deadline. Guess we should have charged more. :-)

Here’s the video with the breaking news:

Hope you are one of the 2,500 people that has a registration. Looking forward to seeing you on March 12 in Anderson, South Carolina!

Leaders in Our Churches are Stressed

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit with Bill and talk about leadership. Bill attends and serves at one of our NewSpring campuses. He coaches leaders for a living.

Bill shared the results of a recent online survey of Christian business owners and leaders. Over 550 people participated. Most of the folks that responded were leading organizations with less than 50 people. These are small business leaders. And, presumably since they’re Christians, these are folks that are sitting in our services on Sunday mornings.

Here’s some of what Bill found out in his survey:

  • 87% were satisfied with their relationship with their spouse.
  • 88% were satisfied with their relationship with their kids.
  • 31% were dissatisfied with their relationship with God.
  • 30% were dissatisfied with their prayer and devotional time.
  • 68% indicated they’ve been very or moderately stressed in the past 6 months.

These are the leaders in our churches. Is this better than “normal” people? I don’t know. Either way, though, it’s challenging for me to know that almost a third of the leaders in our churches are dissatified with their relationship with God. And, with that in mind, it doesn’t shock me to know that more than two thirds of these leaders are dealing with stress.

What’s your reaction? What’s our responsibility given this information?

Replay of Webcast on NewSpring Web Campus

Earlier today I hosted a live webcast to discuss NewSpring’s Web Campus. I interviewed Nick Charalambous, our web campus pastor, and Joshua Blankenship, our creative director. As Nick might say, it was a smashing experience. In case you missed it, here’s the video replay:

After watching the video, you may want to check out this overview of the Web Campus and Joshua’s more detailed description of what we’re doing.

Our next services on the web campus will be on Sunday at 11:15 and 6:00 pm EST. See you there!

The Way Weddings Would be if People were Honest

This wedding ceremony wouldn’t be so funny if it wasn’t so true. This is the video we showed in yesterday’s message to open the iwantanewmarriage.com series.

The message series continues next week. Perry will be back from his trip to Kenya. My guess is he’ll have stories to share and a new passion for what’s coming next at NewSpring.

Don’t miss it. Invite your friends.

You deserve a new marriage.

Marriage Series Video Trailer

Here’s the video trailer that our team created to promote the iwantanewmarriage.com series. This might be my favorite series trailer that I’ve seen our guys put together. It’s powerful. Check it out.

NewSpring’s Web Campus on Today’s Live Webcast

We’ve been getting lots of questions about NewSpring’s Web Campus, so later today I will be interviewing Nick Charalambous, our web campus pastor, and Joshua Blankenship, our creative director, on a live webcast. As a preview to that conversation, you may want to check out this overview of the Web Campus and Joshua’s more detailed description of what we’re doing.

You’ll have the opportunity to participate and ask questions during the webcast. It’ll be live. And, as always, it’ll be FREE.

Here are the details:

Feel free to start asking questions by leaving comments on this post. I’ll use your questions to launch the conversation.

Tell your friends to join us. The more the merrier. See you this afternoon.

Unleash 2009 Almost Sold Out

You didn’t believe me did you?

I just found out that 2,400 people have registered for Unleash 2009. We only have about 100 spots remaining before we sell out. The early bird deadline is Wednesday (February 11). After Wednesday, the price goes up. I don’t think it’s going to matter. My guess is those remaining 100 spots are going to be gone by the end of the day tomorrow.

If you’d like to join us in March for Unleash 2009, you need to get your bum in gear and register immediately.

In the mean time, I’ll work with the team to see if we can squeeze a few more people into the new auditorium of our student ministry building. We announced last week that we’ll be using both auditoriums for the conference. (btw… I’ll be in the new auditorium.)

If you’re the type of person that waits until the last minute to do anything, this is the last minute.
