Cockroach Christmas?

KillingCockroaches_CVRSo I recently found out from my publisher that Killing Cockroaches is in its fifth printing. I guess that means people are buying the book. And, given the fact that the book has only been out for 9 months, that’s probably a positive sign.

Since everyone will be in the Christmas shopping mood on Friday, I thought I might offer some helpful advice:

  • Order a copy of Killing Cockroaches and wrap it as a gift to yourself. If you do it this week, you’ll forget about it by Christmas and it’ll be a fun surprise.
  • Order a copy for your spouse. That way they know how to support you when the cockroaches begin to creep into your life.
  • Order a copy for your boss…but make it an anonymous gift. Your boss doesn’t need to know you think they’re addicted to cockroach killing.
  • Order a copy for everyone on your team and read through it together.

Oh, and just to get you in the holiday mood, I also have ten copies of Killing Cockroaches that I’m ready to give away. Just leave a comment on this post and I’ll put your name in the hat. The drawing will take place on Black Friday.

(Bonus points will go to the best cockroach carol.)

With young kids crawlin’ all over the house, we sure could use some help killin’ cockroaches here! :)

A carol you say? Further down in the lyrics to cockroaches roasting on an open fire one would hear…

And every mother’s child is going to cry,
To learn that roaches really know how to fly!

    (congrats on another print!)

“Joy to the world the cockroaches are dead.
    I stepped on their head.
When I read tony’s book, that’s all it took.
Productivity at its best.Productivity at its best.Pro-OH-ductivity at its best.”

If you sing it in my head it makes perfect sense…Mike.

For a while I was in the pest control industry as a salesman. Worst job I ever had. But I did learn, not only how to kill cockroaches, but identify them by species. If that doesn’t deserve some type of free gift or at least an overflowing abundance of sympathy, I don’t what does. Love your blog, surely your book would be therapy.

Would love to win one of your books! Love your blog.

My Carol (to be sung to the tune of Jingle Bells):

    Verse 1:
    Dashing ‘cross the floor
    Headed for the food
    Coming from the door
    Man, how they intrude

    Roaches are so gross
    They get in everything
You try to sweep them out the door
and they just take to wing!

    Chorus:
    Stomp and splat
    Smash and crush
    Kill them on the spot
They’ll overtake your life if you don’t give it all you’ve got.
    Traps and Bait
    Roach Hotels
    Driving me berserk
Killing all these cockroaches sure takes a lot of work.

    Verse 2:
    I found a book online
    I know what it’s about
    The title says it all
It’s sure to help me out

I read the whole thing fast,
But it won’t aid a bit!
    It doesn’t help exterminate!!
    It deals with Leadership!!

    Chorus 2:
    Read at home
    Read at work
    Read around the town
I’m learning such great principles, I can’t put this book down. But,
    Bugs are still
    All around
    Everywhere I look
I guess when I’m done reading I’ll just smash them with my book.

  27. Jennifer November 24, 2009 at 9:32 am #

  28. Elle November 24, 2009 at 9:43 am #

Said Santa to the 9 reindeer,
“Do you see what I see?”
In my sack, with the presents, 12 reindeer
Do you see what I see?
A roach, a roach, eating my cookies
He better not drink my milk
Oh, he better not drink my milk

Said the 9 reindeer to the Mr Claus
Do you hear what we hear?
In your sack, with the presents, Mr Claus
Do you hear what we hear?
A hiss, a hiss, from a roach that is miffed
It’s gonna bite you if you take that treat
Oh, he’s gonna bite you if take that treat

  29. Elle November 24, 2009 at 9:46 am #

Love this book. LOVE it! Whenever I head across the floor to stomp some cockroaches, I can hear your voice in my head reminding me of what I’ve learned.

    Carol:
All I want for Christmas is my cockroaches dead,
    my cockroaches dead
    my cockroaches dead.

All I want for Christmas is my cockroaches dead
    so I could wish you
    Cockroach-free Christmas!

  38. Dan Bru November 24, 2009 at 10:42 am #

    Tony,

I would love a copy of your book! I have greatly appreciated your previous books with Tim Stevens.

    How about this for a carol . . .

    Tony, the red-nosed cockroach
    Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw him
You would even say it grows

    All of the other cockroaches
Used to laugh and call him names
    They never let poor Tony
    Join in any cockroach games

  39. Scott November 24, 2009 at 10:44 am #

Can I use the book to actually kill cockroaches?

  40. Chris Hill November 24, 2009 at 10:44 am #

Congrats Tony. I have a copy already, but I must satisfy my inner jingle writer:

roaches roasting on an open fire
six crispy legs, three in two rows
counting the offering and directing the choir
designing bulletins that promote the Chrismas show

    every leader knows
    the importance of saying “no”
it helps you use your talents right

    this book right here
    written by Tony Mo
may even help you stay alive

    merry Christmas (in papyrus font)

If I win will you sign it too?

    (Sung to “Jingle Bells”)
    Slashing with a hoe,
    Cockroaches block my way,
    So many more to go,
    Limited hours in a day!

    Time wasters yes they be,
    Efficiency is so slight
    “Ah yes”, my strategy,
Will be to work all night!

Ohhhhhh…delegate, elevate, lead out from that paper bag.
Radiate, navigate, the deacons want my head!
Delegate, elevate, I must say honestly.
Radiate, navigate, “Be like them” is my new strategy!

  46. Ok here goes,

To the tune of “ Angels we have heard on High”

Roaches see them as they fly
    Lots of tiny buzzing wings
A metaphor for the average guy
Who loses site of important things

    Leader, why this distracting need
When so many other priorities plea
Maybe you should kill that bug
And move on to those greater things

    Gloria..
That bug is in the way, O
That bug is in the way, O

    Readers come and readers buy
    Its time to start exterminating
Learn to do your best work for God
All you need is a little educating

Now Tony’s gone and done it again
He’s caused a buzz around Him
We have spent 10 minutes of our own lives
Helping make his new book a win :)

    Gloria..
That bug has saved the day, O
That bug has saved the day, O

How about extra points for being a West Ridger? No shipping……

Said the night wind to the little cockroach
Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky little cockroach

With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

    The kitchen night-Light
The hopes and fears of all the bugs
    Are met in thee tonight

–To the tune of “Silent Night”–

    “Cock-roaches bite

throw the light on they scurry around

I am certainly not a lyricist like Tim Hart, but I need this book. I have told my wife countless time that I run around my workplace with two fire extinguishers to put out all the fires. I know that this is dirrectly related to my boundaries but I am having a tought time coming up with the tools as to equipe those around me so the fires don’t begin in the first place. I will just have to buy the book if I don’t win. Ahhhhhh….. such is life. Haven’t read it yet but thank you.

    Tony
With Christmas just around the corner, I have to tell you that Killing Cockroaches is just what my momma needs this year. I’ve re-written the following song to express how important this is for her. I think we might even be able to make a Lifetime TV movie about it. If I win a book, you can have the royalties from the movie as a thanks for making my momma’s Christmas perfect.
    Peace

    Christmas Roaches

    It was almost Christmas time
There I stood in another line
Trying to buy that last gift or two
Not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me
Was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing around like little boys do
And in his hands he held
    A book about roaches

And his clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say

Sir I wanna buy this book for my Momma please
It’s Christmas Eve and this book is just what she needs
    Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there’s not much time
You see, we’ve had roaches for quite a while
And I know this book will make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If Momma sees a roach, tonight.

He counted pennies for what seem like years
And cashier says son there’s not enough here
    He searched his pockets franticly
And he turned and he looked at me
He said Momma made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
    Tell me Sir
    What am I gonna do?
Some how I’ve got to buy her this roaches book

So I layed the money down
I just had to help him out
    And I’ll never forget
    The look on his face
When he said Momma’s gonna look so great.

I knew I caught a glimpse of heavens love as he thanked me and ran out.
I know that God had sent that little boy to remind me
    What Christmas is all about

Sir I wanna buy this book for my Momma please
It’s Christmas Eve and this book is just what she needs
    Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there’s not much time
You see, we’ve had roaches for quite a while
And I know this book will make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If Momma sees a roach, tonight.
