Platform

There are no shortcuts to having a platform. You have to earn it.

No one owes you a platform.

Sometimes someone who is trusted can help you get a moment on the platform, but you still have to deliver to keep it.

The harder you try to have a platform, the harder it is to get it.

If you do what you’re designed to do and you are faithful to stick with it over time, there’s a good chance you’ll have a platform.

Not all platforms are created equal, but all have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others.

Relationships are the foundation of a platform. If you can’t build relationships, you can’t have a platform.

The person who yells the loudest doesn’t necessarily get the platform.

If you never stop and listen, you probably won’t get the platform either.

If it’s just about you, you don’t have a platform.

You’ll lose your platform if you don’t continue to use it for positive change. You have to move people to a better place.

You’re more likely to leverage your platform if you tell stories that engage both the head and the heart.

You’re more likely to keep your platform if you ask questions.

If people can’t have access to you and your daily life, your platform is probably shrinking whether you know it or not.

Platforms are established over time and lost in an instant.

Lots of people want a platform, but very few are gifted to have a platform and even fewer are humble enough to keep it.

So you gain a platform through technique and the ability to communicate better. That’s the only way?

It seems to be more technical than God opening the door for you. Seems like this list is good but limited to a specific group of people who are either gifted in speaking or can tell a good story.

There are tons of people, especially in the Bible, that didn’t have that gift.

Tell me if I am wrong or just misreading it.

ben, i think you ought to reread the post through the eyes of someone who doesn’t speak for a living. because, honestly, i wasn’t thinking about speakers when i wrote this. lots of people have “platforms” that don’t speak.

Great Post Tony… All are great insights. I have a couple more.

How about…”The skills that get you the platform may not be the characteristics that allow you to keep it” or “Dont’ hurry to have a platform” ?

    What do you think?

OUTSTANDING post! The part that FIRES ME UP the most is “Move people to a better place.” and “Relationships are the foundation.”

The statement is true: “People don’t care much you know until they know how much you care.”

This is why I read the wildly popular TonyMorganLive.com Every. Single. Day.

Hey Tony, I don’t speak for a living, haha. That’s why I was asking the questions. =)

You are correct, I should broaden the definition of platform though. Sorry for the narrow approach.

    Tony,

Thanks. This was very timely and exactly what I needed to hear today.

    Tony,

Enjoyed the stuff on “Platform.” Are you relying on the medias to allow people to continue to have access to your life?

    Great thoughts Tony,

I’ve been slowly building up my platform for the last year or two and it’s been a lot of work, but very rewarding too. I’ve been able to meet so many great people and have experienced the joy of making them laugh, and the joy of learning a thing or two from them. Good to remember how quickly it can all slip away the moment we stop being grateful, respectful, humble, and honest.

Great post, Tony. Love the opening line.

I’ve noticed that in many cases, though not all, that humility is the single key ingredient to having a platform that is genuinely rich.

    Do you agree?
