Ready to Man Up?
Several months ago, a few of us were sitting in my office talking about trying to impact the lives of men in our community. It started with a proposal to do a men’s retreat. We talked about that option and everything it would take to pull off a successful retreat. We knew, at best, we might be able to challenge a few hundred guys.
Then we started to talk about what might happen if we could do the men’s retreat on Sunday mornings. It could potentially give us the opportunity to connect with a few thousand men rather than just a few hundred. That’s the genesis of the “Man Up” series that will launch this coming Sunday at the Dallas and West Paulding campuses of West Ridge Church. Here’s the video trailer for the series:
For the next five weeks, we’re going to talk to guys about God’s design for their lives. It’s going to be unfiltered. We’re going to hit some tough topics. And, at the same time, we have some fun activities planned on the upcoming Sunday mornings that have a high degree of the “grunt” factor. In other words, guys will love it.
Here’s the other thing we really believe, women need to be a part of this conversation as well. At the typical men’s retreat, women aren’t allowed. That’s unfortunate because women really need to hear how God has uniquely designed men. I really believe this series is going to help married and single women (including my 16-year-old daughter) get a right perfective of the men in their lives.
If you happen to live anywhere in the ATL area, we’d love to have you join us for the beginning of this series next Sunday. Check the website for locations and times. Don’t come alone. This is the perfect series to invite your friends.

I love the fact that you are investing in men with moms and daughters in the room. Our daughters need to see what they should be looking for in a husband. I also believe that boys should be in there as well. We should be teaching our boys early what it means to be a godly man and how that fleshes out in the middle and high school years. Will I be able to listen online?
This is my first post on your blog and it’s really inspiring to read through ALL I have missed out prior to discovering you TONY. Just picked up you book-KILLING COCKROACHES and i mmediately fell in love (especially after that introduction).
There really isn’t any society that can go further than the quality of men they have in their populace. Men bear on them the responsibilty of, not just leadership, but direction and protection. More like Guidance and guardiance. So Anything that would improve the quality and vintage of men would so highly be timely!
Better me mean better marriages. Better men mean better-trained kids. Better men mean better -run organizations. Better men mean better-run churches. Better men also means ‘more better men ‘cos men reach fellow men better. The effects of men are ripple-like. So there is bound to be chain-reaction.
It’s a great idea. Keep it up!
EXCEL!!!
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the book. (The intro still makes me laugh too.)
