John Piper Interviews Rick Warren about Doctrine Behind ‘Purpose Driven Life’

John Piper on the Purpose Driven Life:

“Frankly, I’m appalled at the kinds of slanders that have been brought against this book by people whose methods of critique if they were consistently applied to the Bible would undo it as the Word of God.”

I really appreciate the humility and mutual respect that Dr. Piper and Dr. Warren displayed. They embodied the Gospel. May we learn from them.

My heart is sadden that this interview had to take place in the first place. The interview felt like Dr. Piper was defending his friend, as though Rick Warren, and all the great things God has done through him needed to be defended.

And it seemed like Dr. Piper was trying make sure or persuade Dr. Warren to become a 5-point Calvinist as thoughthat particular brand of theology is the queen of all theology within Evangelicalism.

I thank God for both of these me.

I certainly don’t have the wisdom that these two men of faith have, it sounded like Pastor Rick was either upset or defending himself for some reason. I found Jesus to always be Deep and Simple at times, I still read his teaching today and scratch my head seeking insight yet at other times he was super clear. It’s about conveying love in our tone and that WAS clear with Jesus, what ever he said, he said in a LOVE greater than himself.
