Favorite Quotes from the Global Leadership Summit
I enjoyed spending a few days in Chicago with the elders from West Ridge Church. While we were there, we attended the Global Leadership Summit at Willow Creek Community Church. Here are the highlights from the sessions I attended:
- “Are you naming, facing and resolving the problems that exist in your organization?” –Bill Hybels
- “If you can’t predict the future, create it.” –Len Schlesinger
- “Everyone is born an original, but sadly, most die as carbon copies.” –Cory Booker
- “If failure is not an option, then neither is success.” –Seth Godin
- “God doesn’t give you the faith to finish what he calls you to; he gives faith to start it.” –Steven Furtick
- “I’d rather deal with anger than apathy.” –Michelle Rhee
- “When your maturity is not strong enough to change something, add external structure.” –Henry Cloud
You can find notes for all the sessions and additional content on the Willow Creek Association blog.

I loved Cory Booker’s “We’re all the result of a grand conspiracy of love.” The more I think about it, the more true it seems. Marry that to Len Schlesinger’s “The first generation builds, the next enjoys and the third destroys” and I think it shows that as a country and as the Church we have a choice as to whether we build on the love of the past, simply enjoy it, or destroy it. That’s big.

BTW, Seth Godin’s “Choose yourself” helped me realize that I’m in the midst of choosing myself to write (second book, “Tweeting Church” is in progress, not that “Podcasting Church” is done.)
That should have been “now that ‘Tweeting Church’ is done.”
