Steve Jobs Era Ends

In case you missed the news, Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple yesterday. With that news, I thought I’d share a speech Jobs gave at the Stanford commencement ceremonies in 2005. This is after his initial cancer diagnosis. He shares three stories about dropping out of college, getting fired from Apple and facing death. It’s worth less than 15 minutes of your day to listen to how Jobs processed some “necessary endings” in his life.

This speech floors me. This is probably the most humble I’ve ever heard him speak in all the speeches I’ve seen videos of him talk. Powerful stories too, so real they are strike the soul and you can tell how much they identify with him because of how gentle and slowly he expresses the details of them. I never saw this clip, thank you for sharing.
“Stay hungry, stay foolish.” Everyone can learn something from that.

    Tony,

Tim Cook, the heir apparent at Apple, is actually from the small town where I’m currently serving in ministry. It’s the little town of Robertsdale, AL just north of Gulf Shores here on the Alabama coast. Looking forward to seeing how Tim’s leadership unfolds at Apple. By all accounts, he’s more than capable of handling this position, but following Steve Jobs is practically impossible. Jobs is more than just a business leader. He is a visionary.

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap that you have something to lose.” – Incredible statement!

    Thanks for sharing this!
