First Five Minutes of Sunday

I loved the opening of Sunday’s service. Since I rarely get to show off Tom, check out his cover of Kristian Stanfill’s “Faithful.” Love the the arrangement, the lights and the excitement this created leading off the service. Good stuff.

Tom is our regular worship leader from the Greenville Campus. He led worship in Anderson on Sunday, while RoseAngela led in Greenville. Too much talent. We don’t deserve it. (But we’re glad we have it.)

NewSpring Tweets

Since Unleash, I’ve been inundated with email messages, Facebook notes, and Twitter direct messages asking questions about ministry at NewSpring. The reality is I rarely have the answers for those questions. I end up having to forward them to someone on our team that has the answers. With that in mind, I thought I’d cut out the middle man.

Here a portion of the more than 60 NewSpring staff members that are on Twitter. They may not have the answers either, but they might be able to help you some of the right questions to begin asking.

There are a number of other folks on our staff that Twitter. Sorry I couldn’t list everyone. Maybe one of these days I’ll share a list of the key volunteer leaders that are on Twitter. Frankly, they’re the ones doing the real ministry.

btw… I’ll put our Tweets up against the Tweets of any other church in the world. We may still be figuring out how to lead a church, but we can out-Twitter the best of them.

Looking for Financial Freedom?

We’ve used the backdrop of the struggling economy as an opportunity to do a series at NewSpring on God’s plans for handling our personal finances. Perry has been teaching through the “Sermon on the Mount” since January, and we’re at the point where we’re considering what Jesus said about money and addressing the question, “Where’s my bailout?

We know that this isn’t just an issue for government or business. The current economic conditions are also impacting individuals and households. With that in mind, we’re offering a next step for people who are interested in finding freedom in their personal finances.

Joe Sangl, our pastor of financial planning and counseling, is presenting his Financial Learning Experience class FREE on the NewSpring Web Campus on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. This will be the first experience outside of a Sunday service that we’ve offered on the Web Campus.

If you attend the class online, you’ll have a chance to sign up for FREE one-on-one counseling from Joe’s team and:

  • Develop a plan for one’s life
  • Create a budget that works
  • Eliminate debt
  • Calculate debt freedom date
  • Calculate amount needed for retirement
  • Hear about the power of compound interest

We want you to live debt free so you can respond to God’s call for your life. We want you to provide a future for your children. We want you to honor God in every financial decision you make.

If you happen to live in the Florence, Anderson or Greenville areas, you can also participate in live events at each of those campuses. You will have to register ahead of time, however, if you decide to participate in the class at one of our physical locations.

I hope you’ll consider taking advantage of this FREE class. Please share this opportunity with your friends.

Churches that Give the Middle Finger

Perry went on a rant today about the labels we try to put on our ministries. He confirmed that NewSpring is a traditional, seeker-friendly, emerging, missional, attractional, purpose-driven church. And, in some respects, we’re none of those. (There, now just about everyone has a reason to hate us.) During his tirade, he offered this statement:

“We have a purpose…and it’s not to be a country club with a steeple on top that gives our community the middle finger and tells them to go to hell because reaching them would make us uncomfortable!”

He concludes by acknowledging that you can try to label us all you want, but our main objective is to be the church God designed us to be. We aspire to be a movement and not a label.

I love it when my boss just says what’s on his mind. The phrase “politically correct” is not in his vocabularly.

Check out the rest of his post. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Launching NewSpring West Coast on Sunday

We’re launching a new service on Sunday that’s targeting people living on the West Coast. The service will start at 11:00 am Pacific Time (2:00 pm Eastern Time) on the NewSpring Web Campus.

Now you’ll be able to sleep in on Sunday morning. Enjoy your Sunday paper. (Do people still read newspapers?) And, then join us for worship and teaching at 11:00. The service will typically be hosted by Nick, our web campus pastor. If Nick gets his way, I’m guessing a service for his friends in London is next.

Join us this Sunday as we continue the Where’s My Bailout? series. If you missed last week’s message, this video will catch you up to speed.

Do you have friends or family living out west who aren’t currently connected to a church? This may be a easy, first step to help them consider the claims of Jesus.

Hope to see you online on Sunday.

Watch Unleash 09 LIVE!

This Thursday, we’re hosting our third Unleash conference at NewSpring Church at our Anderson campus. Here’s what to expect:

  • 3,000 registered guests eager to learn and be inspired
  • 500 volunteers ready to serve
  • 100 NewSpring staffers ready to both learn and serve
  • 2 main sessions with loud music for the young people
  • 1 Perry Noble with more Perryisms than you can shake a stick at (My son loves it when I use that phrase.)

Now you can watch it live (in your skivvies if you’d like) from the comfort of your own home via the World Wide Web. Don’t worry it’s all FREE.

Earlier this afternoon, we launched the Unleash 09 site that will offer live streaming of the main sessions, chat, Twitter updates and a schedule of all the action. You have to provide your own skivvies.

Tell the neighbors. Tell your friends. We’re giving it all away. Enjoy!

Multi-site Changes Everything

I’m preparing my breakout session for Thursday. We’re hosting Unleash 09 at NewSpring. Almost 3,000 people are registered. I’m expecting exactly 4 of those people to be at my breakout session. If you’re one of those 4, here are my notes. I’ll be talking through this for about 30 minutes. Then we’ll have about 30 minutes for Q&A.

Yes, multi-site changes everything. (And, in case you’re wondering, web campuses change everything else.) That’s what I’ll be talking about on Thursday. Feel free to start leaving your questions as comments on this post. I’ll start with those.

See you on Thursday. Be there or be square.
