Perryisms

Here are some of the Perryisms from today’s message…

  • "Are you willing to lead your family spiritually, or do you have protectile dysfunction?"
  • "If you’re using the submission verse on your wife, you’re a loser."
  • To single guys: "Commit to her and stop playing with her heart. I don’t respect a man who won’t commit."
  • To married guys: "When the going gets tough, the weak man bows out."
  • To the women: "It was eventually the Lord that got Abram’s attention, not his nagging wife."
  • "Don’t worry. I’m trying to offend everybody."
  • "Some of you are praying ridiculous prayers. You’re praying your sin doesn’t affect your kids. Your sin always affects your kids."

This is one of those services that I highly recommend you view from beginning to end. The video will be available by Tuesday. You’ll get a chance to hear RoseAngela sing a country song about loving dogs more than men. You’ll see how we incorporated baptisms into the service. You’ll see the protectile dysfunction (PD) commercial. You’ll hear a very challenging message. You’ll see hundreds of men respond to the challenge to be real men.

Of course, you all know, we just water down the message and try to make people feel comfortable at NewSpring

I don’t know how to shag.

…at least the kind of shagging Perry was talking about. Check out the video below.

Campus Pastors Club

Campuspastors
I’m pretty sure this is the inaugural gathering of the NewSpring Campus Pastors Club. Meet Mr. Greenville, Howard Frist, on the left and Mr. Florence, Michael Brown, on the right. They’re both card carrying members of the very exclusive club. Someday, however, there will be several other members.

Do you know someone who could be a future campus pastor at NewSpring? Are you a leader? Are you craving the opportunity to be a part of the NewSpring team? Are you an entrepreneur ready to take new territory? We’re not hiring immediately, but we will someday in the future. If the thought of an adventure like this gets your heart racing, send me your resume and a cover letter. Somebody surprise me.

The Big News

Florence
In addition to celebrating the resurrection of Christ today, Perry shared some big news with our Easter crowd. As you probably have already heard, we are launching our Greenville campus this summer. Today, he announced that we’re also going to be launching a campus in Florence, South Carolina this fall. Here are the details that we know so far…

  • Michael will be heading back to Florence with his family to become our campus pastor in that location. (Michael’s new blog is coming soon.)
  • We’ll be going portable. It’ll be like the good old days when NewSpring used to meet at Anderson University. We haven’t decided the final location yet. That decision will happen in the next several weeks.
  • Like the Greenville campus, we will be hiring a worship leader and a children’s ministry director and providing all the Sunday ministries that we have at Anderson with the exception of Perry’s message–that’ll be delivered by video.
  • Michael is already connecting with a core group of people who will be helping us launch the Florence campus. If you live in Florence or know folks who would be interested in joining that team, email Michael directly.

Easter Perryisms

I’ll let Perry share the details about this weekend at NewSpring. It was a big weekend. Lots of folks accepted Christ. Thousands of folks heard about the "Ultimate Fighter" Jesus. The band rocked…and so did the first-ever NewSpring choir.

Here are some of my favorites lines from today’s message…

  • "A lot of people at NewSpring like to shag."
  • "Jesus is a man’s man. He’s the ultimate fighter."
  • Referring to Revelation 19:11-16, "This is my favorite Jesus passage in the Bible."
  • "Heaven is open for business."
  • "I play to win. When Charisse gets Candyland, I’m taking her to the house."
  • "We think we’re good because we know someone worse than us."
  • "Jesus Christ is who makes you right with God."

Oh, and he shared the big news. More on that in the next post.

Update on NewSpring Greenville Campus

Howard and the boys created a video update for the Greenville campus. Check out the progress. You can keep up with updates like this by subscribing to the Greenville campus blog.

New Unleash Site Goes Live

Unleashsite_2
We flipped the switch on the new Unleash Conference site this afternoon. Joshua has been working like a mad dawg trying to deliver the goods. And, I’d have to say he hit a home run. Check out the site. You’ll find…

  • Video of the 2008 main sessions.
  • Video of last year’s main sessions.
  • Notes from all the breakout sessions.
  • Photography goodness.
  • The ability to Twitter and Flickr to your heart’s content.
  • Info about next year’s conference.

The fun is just beginning. We’ll be rolling out more new webocity in the coming months. It’s more than a fresh coat of paint. We’re reconstructing the entire house…one room at a time.

“The Man Series” Promo #2

a Matchlight in the Dark on iTunes

Matchlight
It’s new music Tuesday and Lee’s new album, a Matchlight in the Dark, is now available on iTunes. You can still order it from CD Baby if you’d like the actual CD.

By the way, if you want a very accurate review of Lee’s album that will make you split a gut laughing, check out this post from Chris Elrod. One of my favorite lines: "For those that have been suckling on Hughes and Tomlin for too
long…that sound you hear on the song…it’s called distorted guitar."

Chris shares similar thoughts to my initial reaction to Lee’s album. It’s very different than any other worship music I’ve heard in recent years.

Frankly, I’m relieved. I was worried I have to pimp music I didn’t like. I’ve been complaining about worship music for several years. Fortunately, Lee loves to worship loud, and that’s reflected in this album.

Tell all your friends about it. It will make their earbuds happy.
