The Power of Music

I was reminded, again, this week how powerful music is in my life. I engage the truth found in the Bible in many ways. I read it. I hear it. I pray it. I watch it in action in people’s lives. But, honestly, where I and most moved by the God’s Word is through music.

But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress. (Psalm 59:16, NLT)

Music connects the truth from my head to my heart. It helps me know God at a completely different level.

It’s a great reminder to me that the music we select to accompany a message is pretty important. For me, the music is just as important to message as the teaching itself. I’m guessing that may not be the case for everyone, but it’s certainly the way I’m wired up.

How about you? Can you relate? And, if so, what songs has God used to speak to you most clearly?

I like to think of worship as a lot more than “…the music we select to accompany a message”.

  3. Thanks for sharing your post about your connection to God through music, over time you have shared many great posts about artists, records and interviews right here so there is great truth in what you say.
What’s incredible is this morning I woke up wanting to read something to my volunteers and came across the verse you posted here… God is good and I’m glad he invented music for us to sing, worship, connect, reflect, cry and rock out out on. Seriously. :-)

  4. At the risk of being cyberflogged, I want to challenge you to give up notions that worship is about/for us…It must become about one thing only…Expressing our intimate love for God. In provocative movies, intimate scenes are “steamy” for a reason…to compel viewers to engage. Our worship must be so intimate and compelling that others WANT to engage.

Modern worship or dare I say entertainment affords much too much opportunity for spectators and reviewers. When a real worship service happens, EVERYONE knows it and leaves a different person than they were upon arrival.

  5. Music is life basicaly.music leads, directs, and controls the body, spirit and soul.music apart from being a medium for convayance of massage,is also used as a sourse to hypnotise and controls someones conciousness without the person’s concent.so,one has to be very careful with the kind of music he listens to.they may be very inviting and lureing to the ear and the spirit.so!be warned. To me,I love music to the core[gosple].I breath music, smell music, eat music, drink music and live music.I also listens to and sing music.but on a very careful note.
