Beyond Capital Campaigns: Every Aspect of Increasing Generosity You’re Not Thinking About

How can you increase generosity?

This is a question church leaders across the globe are wrestling with. They want their ministry to grow. They want giving to increase. They want to successfully fund capital campaigns. But they’re not quite sure where to start. Unfortunately, this often leads churches to neglect intentionally building generosity.

A recent Barna Group study showed that one-third of Christians are self-focused in how they handle their money. After the study, David Kinnaman, president of Barna Group, said, ““That motivations are of ultimate importance is no surprise. Why, then, do church leaders sometimes make them of secondary importance when it comes to generosity? So often we focus our efforts on cultivating generous habits rather than on making generous disciples.”

To address this topic, I recently spoke with Joe Sangl, CEO of INJOY Stewardship Solutions, a company I highly recommend that helps churches increase generosity and fund the vision God has given them through customized capital campaigns. Joe shared a lot of wisdom about this critical issue that churches face. Check out our conversation below:

Conversation Highlights:

  • “If you are asking someone to go from zero to sacrifice, that’s like asking someone who has been on the couch for 5 years to get up and run a marathon.”
  • “I would challenge leaders to think about the importance of the work they’re doing and then invite people to invest in it.”
  • “People need to be able to give to your church in 60 seconds or less.”
  • “I recommend that churches talk at least 3 or 4 times a year about money as a whole, not just about giving.”
